Companies across the same sector of the same industry pay different salaries.

Why is that? Stature? Staff wellbeing? Success?

A large part of our club's (company's) ethos is about the social responsibility which it undertakes. The 1254125 campaign, for instance. We pride ourselves on it

That social responsibility should extend into offering a wage which people can survive on. In Glasgow, that is £7.45 per hour

They've been surviving on the current wage for however long they've been with the club.

In the minimum wage we already have an artificially high wage floor. If they want an increase on that then let them go through the proper channels like everyone else has too. As I said if they get it, then good for them, but this shouldn't be confused with charity or fairness. It's a pay rise that everyone is entitled to ask for.

Mate, no offence intended, but have you seen how much the cost of living has grown compared to wages?

Ten years ago petrol was 75p per litre, now it is not that much less than double that. Has your wage increased by the same amount?

I'm not saying we should be a charity, and I think Doire_Bhoys 'fairness' comment has been taken out of context.

I'll say it again. We are a club which boasts itself, even actively markets itself, on its social conscience. Is spending spending an extra £120,000 per year to make sure the clubs very own employees can live a normal working life too much to ask? Not for me it isn't.

Year after year, the PR campaign is always boasting about the social ethos of the club. I don't see any justifiable reason to vote against this motion tbh.

Exactly my point. I can't see how anyone can disagree with it.

How much did we spend on the Barca display?

£120,000 a year that would be an extra £3 - £4 onto each season ticket?
Would it be worth it? Would you go for it? Worth a thought.:shamrock::shamrock::shamrock:

Wages have not risen in line with costs and inflation, i would definitely be for this, would be a good offer from Celtic that they care about the people that work for them on the bottom of the ladder.

I mean 120k? Peter lawell defers his bonus each year, just use part of it to fund the increased wages.

A fair amount. Not sure on the exact figure, but a few tens of thousands.

When you consider too Lawell is on a £1m a year, him saying the club cant afford it... leaves you asking questions.

Did ye aye? I do have a degree in economics, that in this situation is irrelevant though, i couldn't give a * if its * poor business sense, this is about showing the fans more than anyone that Celtic is indeed not just a business but something that little bit more.

It may very well be an idealistic notion but its not something to sneer at, 120k in the grand scheme of things for a company with revenues from 60-75M is not going to make us go down the *.

    Well said.

Would be a nice gesture to employees at the bottom.

Reminiscent of the ethos and ideals that created the club in the first place.:shamrock:

Could they not do something far more charitable with the money then like give it to a children's hospital or help out a community in the 3rd world?

For a club of our revenue, where do you draw the line in terms of giving cash away?

Hey, Adam Smith is much misused - by no means the apostle of greed you imply he is. Straight outta the European enlightenment tradition, yo.

Any employer not paying the living wage is a poverty employer, a * gangmaster. I'll be ashamed if the club don't rectify this. A club is more than the players on the pitch.

Celtic already do give and do a lot to raise money for charities, being charitable is more than donating money to charities, the club can be charitable to its own employees, the ones earning minimum wage.

The reason the board give is just your typical 'business' line, then they preach to the fans about our ethos, we are more than a club yet when the shareholders put something forward that would represent our 'ethos' they dump it down the drain.
