Does anyone from Derry (or anywhere else) remember a Brazilian player by the name of Nelson da Silva? He played for Derry in the 80's. He just caught my eye in passing and it would be interesting to know how this Brazilian came to play in Derry at that time.

Was he any good? Style of play? Any classic moments?

    I know of him.

But I was too young to see him play.

From what I’ve heard, he left quite a few love children behind. A by a few, I mean a lot...

    Well, so the rumours go.

Derry women are like that… they’d cling onto anything, no self-respect or self-awareness.

It was the same when the Brits came here.

I heard something about this on the world football radio show the other night- the south american correspondent was fascinated by it but didn't know too much about the player.

They'd another Brazilian-sounding player called Owen Da Gama at the time though he was South African. Derry spent a fortune in the late 80's on bringing in players from overseas....
