    He was making the right noises in one of the tabloids today, and he also looks pretty tidy;

Bulgarian wonderkid Aleksandar Tonev: I would snub Serie A to join Celtic
    Aleksandar Tonev would join Celts
    PA
    By Gavin Berry | 17 Apr 2013 09:13
BULGARIAN wonderkid Aleksandar Tonev last night revealed he’ll snub interest from Serie A if Celtic offer him a crack at the Champions League.

The Lech Poznan star admitted he is aware that Neil Lennon’s SPL champions are on his trail as they look to strengthen in the summer to ensure a return to Europe’s premier competition.

Tonev is one of his country’s rising stars and the 23-year-old wide player has been capped 11 times for his national team and was named Bulgaria’s best youngster two years ago.

Celtic face a battle to land the highly-rated player after both Lazio and Fiorentina were linked with him but Tonev insisted the Champions League is a huge attraction for him. He said: “It’s an honour to know that Celtic are interested in me.

“They have a big history – and their performance in Europe this year has shown they are ready to create some new history.

“Last summer there were Italian teams interested – and even though Serie A is one of the top leagues in Europe – it’s important to play Champions League football. I could achieve that at Celtic.”

Tonev is rated at £3million but it’s believed his club would accept £1.5m for a player who has two years left to run on his current deal.

I say let a couple of million loose and get this lad over here. Looks like the type who would do a v good job both for us and in England once we've flogged him for 3-5 times what we paid for him. :icon_mrgreen:

Have you seen him play in any games or are you basing this on the youtube clips?

Some encouraging comments in there from him. If the scouts think he is good enough then go for it.

I've not seen much of Tonev, but based on the limited youtube clips, he looks good with both feet and cracks a fair old shot from outside the box. Don't know about the other Bulgarian players, but it would be worth getting 2 or 3 Bulgarians in, so they can settle into life in Scotland a little easier.

I'm just not a fan of judging a player based on youtube clips as it only shows you the best bits about the player. If it was a youtube clip of Mackay-Steven's best bits, then he would look unbelievable. Mackay-Steven has come up with the goods against us in all but the 4-0 hammering at Parkhead this season. He looks good every time I watch him.

This is just horseshit spouted to get Celtic fans to read their pish.

Wouldn't break £2 mil on any player in the foreseeable future.

Why not? Hardly a massive amount, especially if we got back into the Champions League and/or sold some of our top players.

It's not worked well for us the past, our fans turn on players at the first wiff of failure.

seen in the phone-ins thread that he is supposed to be signing.

Realistically I could see us paying up to 4 million for one player and maybe a bit more if we were in the champions league group stage and we sold someone like Wanyama for big money.

having said that I don't want us to buy Tonev as I don't think he is anything special.

£2m would be well worth a punt .
