I dont want us to play in that league.

    I hate that league.

    With a passion.

    Celtic is a Scottish club.

I totally agree with you . however we may have no choice but to pursue the epl/Bpl because the proposed league reconstruction will * scottish football up. precise a club the size of celtic should be well up there among man utd etc.

It's not true that we have "no choice". Our choice is only limited by our imagination.

Why apply to join England? Why not a Scandinavian league or a European league?

Hate this reflexive "England first" mentality. It's so short-sighted it's embarrassing.

QPR are awful, spent a fortune and have a good squad on paper but are in reality, as a team, awful.

I think if we played them we'd win, and over a course of a season we'd finish higher than them.

Are Reading, Southampton, Wigan, Sunderland, Aston Villa all significantly better than us?

    It is indeed embarrassing.

    Very fickle.

Many of our fans seem to believe, fervently, that we are nothing.

To an embarrassing extent it must be said, this thread has highlighted it.

It just goes to show though, marketing is a hugely powerful tool. It seems that to lots of our own fans it doesn't matter what we do, even in the CL, because we don't play in england. :87:

Regardless of what people think the current team could do in the EPL I think we are all unanimous that it would only be a matter of time before we are competing for the title. (3-4 years in my opinion)This is partly down to increased resources (tv & competition money) and our huge fan base.

An interesting question might be; how would the likes of Aberdeen do?

If for instance it was turned into a British league. Aberdeen have one of the biggest fanbases in Scotland and with no local rivals could quite easily attract more fans. A couple years playing in, say league 1, they would be earning far more than they are here. Promotion to the championship and a new stadium (which is in the pipeline) and the ability to attract some of the best Scottish players, could see them steadily building up a fair amount of money.

So what I'm saying is; in less than 10 years of a British league I wouldn't bet against seeing Sevco, Aberdeen and maybe Hearts playing in the top flight. Obviously this is fantasy stuff but in theory it makes sense.

(Just to point out, I am not in favour of joining the EPL. I'd prefer to improve the SPL)

    Current squad 6th to 10th.

Of course, if we were actually to join the EPL, there would be serious investment in the playing squad before we ever set foot in a stadium. It would be a huge financial opportunity for a club with our global fanbase, and a self-respecting billionnaire like Dermot Desmond would be on it like a dug on sausages. He would be taking no chances of any outcome other than us being European challengers from that time on.

But in fairness, I think this thread is more about our present squad, rather than should we / shouldn't we / will we / won't we, so yeah, 6-10.

    True.

The EPL is grotesquely overrated. But as with any "brand", it's kinda illuminating to see who buys into the hype, and who sees it for what it is.

Too many what if's and buts.

In reality, our club after a season or two in the EPL would be very strong financially and I doubt our team would resemble the current make up.

I think as a club, our potential is second to none.

Probably between 7th to 15th place depending on form and injuries. I think the likes of spurs, man city, man u and arsenal would pull away over a 38 game season. and we are around a level I feel, with the likes of West Brom and Fulham.
