I like the lyrics to Scotland the Brave but the tune's not uplifting enough. Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau and La Marseillaise are amazing (not sure the OP would like the lyrics to that either - Aux armes citoyens! Formez vos bataillons! Marchons, marchons! Qu'un sang impur abreuve nos sillons!). The Italian one sounds like it's from an advert for a cheap, German-made pizza. :smiley-laughing002:

Just listened to it again. I actually quite like Scotland the Brave. :smiley-laughing002: I much prefer the John McDermott lyrics though- far more moving - although it does contain the lyrics:

"Here among my mountains wild I have serenely smiled,
When armies and empires against me were hurled,
Firm as my native rock I have withstood the shock,
Of England, of Denmark, of Rome and the world."

... and references to battlefields. Might be a bit too xenophobic for some.:icon_mrgreen:

    The more traditional version:

Lost the post but for whoever said they wished someone would write lyrics for Highland Cathedral:

Land of our fathers, we will always be
Faithful and loyal to our own country
In times of danger, we will set you free
Lead you to glory and to victory

Hail, Caledonia, to our ancient prayer
In this Highland Cathedral, let our standards, bear
Joining, together, with one dream to share
    * bless the people of this land so fair

    Chorus:
Gone is the past, let us start a new
Let this hope of peace, always remain
Spirit of Scotia, be strong and true
Then your children will smile again.

Rise, Caledonia, let your voices ring
In this Highland Cathedral of our * and King
Whom, joy and liberty, to all, will bring
Come; let your heart, with love and courage, sing

    Chorus:
Lonely the exile, o'er distant seas,
The home of their birth, gone from their eyes.
Bring back their souls o'er the ocean breeze
To the land where their fathers lie.

Some of the lyrics are a bit poor to be honest..... a bit contradictory.

Singing against English repression in English. Hahahaha, always a good laugh
I like "Loch Lomond", "Scotland the Brave" and I like "FOS".
    It is a fantastic anthem.
As a non Scottish girl, it always makes me proud ( I don't have a clue why:56:, probably because I love Celtic nations so much). Goosebumps any time I hear it and, as far as I am concerned, FOS, Welsh and Greek anthem are my favourite, although I like Russian anthem melody.

    That would be fantastic!

I love it, brilliant national anthem and when it's sung you can tell that many sing it with pride.

I like it. Uplifting tune and good lyrics but its not in the same class as Germany, Italy or France's anthems.
