He'll be in Wanyama's back pocket.

We won't be just marking Messi out the game with 2 or 3 players. As ILTC pointed out on the previous page we do that and it just leaves more space for the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Villa to exploit us and create an attack. It's useless haha. I don't mean to sound the doom and gloom * of the forum but I just don't think there is any way we can handle Barca.

And there we have it folks. Butch has achieved what hundreds of managers and coaches all over the world could not. He has unlocked the secret to stopping the greatest footballer that ever lived.

    Amazing.

We can't stop him but we can certainly limit him if we deploy the right tactics.A midfield of Commons Ledley Wanyama Kayal and Brown with Sammy upfront is as solid a team we can put out.Just hope we give it a right good go and play with no fear.

There's nothing we can do. In the Nou Camp both Wanyama and Brown have to play. Kayal and Ledley too if they're available. 4 honest to Henrik hard workers. Apart from that there's not much we can do only hope he plays bad. Barcelona have a team full of world class players so we just have to try our best to park the bus and play counter attacking football whenever we can with Samaras breaking down the wing.

Issue Wanyama and Brown with steel-spiked boots so that when they tackle him, his legs get ripped up. Or order a general 90-minute beat-down. A la Vukojević on Pandev in Croatia vs. Macedonia recently.

Now the question becomes, how do we stop the rest of the team giving him the ball :56:

    Brilliant!

My own feelings are we should just ignore him and play Barca, not Messi.

Im absolutely convinced that players are scared of his name and not just his skill....that is, he is so valuable an asset to Barca, Argentina and world football, that every player is only one bad tackle away from having to go into hiding for life!
I mean, who wants to be the guy that finished Messi's career? No one...so i actually think some players back off him a tad.

That said, keep Scott Brown away from him!

We should man-mark him, he'll come short looking for the ball, get Wanyama on to of him.

Then we just need someone to man-mark Xavi and Iniesta .. :43:

This is what we must do. The more we harry them in possession - a famous trademark of Barca's style of play - the more we can stop Barca having the ball and actually passing to Messi. That's the only way.

After last night's Spartak Moscow result - 3-2 Barca, 2-1 down till last 17 mins - there's no fear, but respect. They're the world's greatest team in my book. We just have to work hard, hope our players have a great game and Barca are a bit off colour.

Singling out Messi, when they have Xavi, Iniesta (two of the best 'other' players in the world); not to mention that frightening * David 'goalmachine' Villa... is madness. We're a team, they are too and we will go toe to toe and try and give them a game. Result is meaningless; it is what we do v Spartak Away, then at CP, and Benfica at their place that actually matters.

If they somehow accepted and we somehow had agreed terms with him ( and not to mention the funds to pay for him ) he would still not come till january :56: so he would still play us. Also a doubt barca would sell him for 200 mil.

that is our biggest problem we do not man mark ,this zonal marking is for the likes of Brown and less skill full players to stop them from being exposed and shown up really, as you will never be able to get it into Broons head what you want him to do, all he does most games as you know is ware out boot leather running about never getting forward.
he reminds me of the Italian tank it to had no forward gear.:icon_mrgreen:

    * thing is, you keep messi out the game, you give space to the other players, who are all also worldclass.
