if we try and hack him we'll end up with a man sent off, if we can't play the game with sense of fairplay then * it

play strong and try and limit his possession easier said than done

probably the best attacking footballer there has ever been

I would be really dissapointed if we went out and tried to hack at him. Its just not Celtic. Stay tight to him, try and not give him an inch but none of this hun style of play. We complain when the likes of Motherwell are doing it to us. I know that comparison is * but the point still stands

Celtic will not hack Messi. Never in a million years.

    I'm not picky.
Instead of 10 outfield men, play with 9 and 2 'keepers. Or supply Lenny with a tranquiliser gun :icon_mrgreen:

Seriously, though, we'll just have to try our best to not only contain him, but any other threat. I mean we could say that we can try and cut off the supply of passes to him but he does amazing things with the ball at his feet when he's already got it 50 yards from the goal.

He's run rings round the best defences in the world, so I think we just have to set up as best as we can and hope that he has an off night. Extremely rare for him but it could happen.

Wind him up from the first minute to try and force him to do something stupid.

Could be a mistake though as you could make him angry :smiley-laughing002:

the only way to beat Messi is play one player close to him, and the second player a step to the side of him, this can be done if we are playing one player up the park as that then keeps the min amount of 3 defenders up there, giving you then the 2 free players to follow him closely

    Let the people sing,
Kelvin Wilson will put in two outstanding performances and have him in his back pocket for 180 mins which'll then be immediately followed by a £70m bid for him from Real Madrid.

Think we could get Javier Zanetti on loan for two games? Only player i have ever seen make Messi look relatively human.

You won't like Messi when he's angry.

You might be on to something there. Start McCourt and show the wee * how football is mean to be played. He'll go to pieces.........

Theres nothing you can do to Messi, he just wanders about in space, if you man mark him with like Wanyama, then your just leaving more space with Pedro, Villa, Sanchez, Iniesta and Xavi or whoevers playing and they just skelp you anyway.

Mind we play them twice ya madman.

If we play Paddy in the first game, then Messi will learn off him and tear us apart in the second game. Suprise them with McCourt in the 2nd leg, so that what Messi picks up off him will be used against the 2 other teams :86:
