Because I fell he would be a pain in the * to a defence later on in the game when they will be tired. From the kick off I'm pretty sure the French or Spanish defence could control him. Almeida would probably be better at holding the ball up for Ronaldo or Nani. Also, I don't see Almeida being as effective as Oliviera coming off the bench, because if Oliviera started there is no way he would finish the full 90 minutes.

The entire Portugal team played well. He didn't beat them by himself.

Pepe has been great despite being a *, Moutinho has been showing just how good he is, Nani has been great and Coentrao had a great game tonight.

I know he's a great player. I'd have him in my top 5 of all time easily. But I still dislike him because of his attitude.

 

Almeida can't hold up the ball after tonights performance, missed from like 6 yards as well.

A team like Portugal shouldn't rely on the last 20 minutes to change a game with the players Oliviera have around him he would score more than the others . That's what strikers are there to do. Like tonight if it wasn't for Ronaldo I couldn't see Portugal scoring.

Age and inexperience means nothing either look at muller in South Africa or welbeck in this one they are capable from the start if they are giving a chance. Dixon and the Irish guys with glasses can't mind his name said he should be starting as well no point in having pish strikers on who won't score and are finished.

I think Almeida knows he hasn't taking his Werder Breman form to Portugal, and that Ronaldo and Nani are the main men. I'm sure he knows where his place in the team is, to hold the ball up (which won't be for long looking at the desire of Ronaldo) and getting on the end of crosses. OK, he got unlucky yesterday with finishing crosses, but he has got that in him. You don't get over 60 goals in Germany football if your horse *.

Nobody said they should play for time... Only that they should use their players sensibly and when they will be most effective.

Maybe... Maybe not. I still think that at this, early point in his career he will be more effective coming off the bench.

Welbeck has had far more experience at club level than Oliviera. Welbeck has had a few seasons playing at top Premier League teams while Oliviera has had a season at a mid table Portuguese League team where he got 4 goals. The PL, let's be honest, isn't that great outside of Porto, Benfica, SL etc. Hardly comparably to the Euro's. And remember he still hasn't scored for the national team.

But, yes, age means nothing. If your good enough your old enough.
