If as is mooted we have that kind of cash for 1 or 2 "marquee" signings, we could do worse than follow the Newcastle blueprint.

    Chieck Tiote £3.5m
    Hatem Ben Arfa £2m
    Demba Ba free
    Yohann Cabaye £4.3m

Nice bit of business would you not agree?........

Is it a £4 million budget or the board are willing to sanction a couple of £4 million bids for players?.

Dont want to put a downer on this lads and Lassies but we hear this every year just before season tickets go on sale. Every year we are told about these big signings etc....

I dont mind us going down the route of signing young and up and coming players like we have under Lenny infact I think its a good thing, I just dont know why they feel the need too bullshit us into buying season tickets.

£4m on a player is tuppence in the EPL to us, it'd probably be our whole window budget. too high a risk to do this for us as Fortune would prove.

undiscovered gems is our future. sell a few when they mature and the ones that stay will be our experience. we have to make our own players. very little chance of making marquee signings any more.

Also it wasn't ourselves who said we have X amount to slend. It was the paper.

We said with our finances we can afford to be competitive.

Newcastle blueprint- as said in other posts we can't finance these guys wages- even when St James Prak is now the Sports Direct Stadium!

Fantastic business, but it's about context. If Kayal and Izzy had ripped it up in the Premiership this season as opposed to the SPL, they could quite easily be considered £20m players on the global market as opposed to the £5-10m we could ask for.

Newcastle might have brought those guys in for what WE would consider 'marquee' prices but the general principle is the same.

To be fair this isnt so much a blue print as much as it is an example of just unearthing some cheap talent. And needless to say it isnt that easy otherwise every club would be doing it.

Sadly even if we could talent such as this we couldnt afford them anyway.

We wont make any big signings until it's 100% we will be in the champions league group stage. So we won't sign anyone big until most likely next summer, as we wont need to sign anyone in January as we'll have no competition in the league. That's just my opinion, hope I'm wrong.

    Exactly.

We've been better than Newcastle in the transfer window tbh, fair enough Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba and maybe Cabaye are probably better than anything we've got but we have brought in more great young players than they have, and we are producing our own through the academy as well, I don't know any promising geordie youngsters Newcastle have?

Wish people wouldn't mention anything about possible transfer budgets, too many fans then latch onto arbitrary figures like this 4mil and then have hissy fits when we don't buy players with that pricetag, nevermind that half the players we'd get for that price would break our wage structure.
