The last two games then? You can't judge consistency on that.

He was decent against Thistle, not at his best, was unlucky with the ruled out goal and was getting his fitness back up.

On the weekend he was playing left mid, got forward well, offered a lot of protection for Izzy, scored and generally played well.

Do I seriously need to explain myself again?

I was confused at people saying he was consistent, I thought they were talking about recent performances which I disagreed with. It has become apparent they were talking about his career with us as a whole.
I couldn't agree more about that.

This is the last I'm going to say on it, this chat is boring me.

Easy mate, I dinna think anyone's having a pop - just saying that consistency is not really applicable over a 2 game period straight after being out with injury, that's all. Think people addressing consistency are rightly looking at the bigger picture, that's all.:50:

Can we rely on mulgrew to play left mid this year or do we need another as big Boerrigter seems to be on the sick nearly every other game ?

He deserves plaudits for his various positions he can play but what is HIS favoured position ?

Defensive midfielder. Nowhere else unless he is needed to fill in at CB

    reverse sweeper

in front of the back four

he's not got the defensive qualities of a neil lennon or wanyama but is a very good long passer he's got not bad technique for a big chap to

or centre half not good at left back or left midfield to slow and no change of pace

Definitely. Now that I've saw him play DM role I wouldn't want him playing anywhere else.

Suits him perfectly. He doesn't have the pace to play at left back or left midfield.

He's good enough as the one getting forward in a two man midfield as well.

Not for me. Doesn't have the mobility and it isn't playing to his positional awareness and ability to dictate play from deep.

Funny, I think that's his stronger points. Especially the dictate play part.

The reason I liked him at centre half was because he could read the game very well, and played out from the back, which is exactly why I like him in defensive midfield. There is no better passer in our team I don't think.

That's what I mean, his strengths are his positional awareness and his ability to dictate play from deep, which would be negated by playing him in a midfield 2 with an emphasis on breaking forward.

Ahh right, he has a knack of finding space in the box when he's allowed forward though and he's composed and can header the ball. It's not his best position, not at all but I quite like seeing him there. It's a different option, one that can spring a surprise.

People saying to slow for left back or left mid as well, the pace aspect doesn't matter really it depends what you're looking for. Two of his best performances in the Hoops have came from those positions - Sammy day at Ibrox was at left nod and the 6-0 League Party at Rugby Park he was left back, scored 2 and set up 2.

Mulgrew is an easy player to fit in and we can adapt easily on the pitch due to players like him being versatile. Everyone seems to be shoehorning him into the one position, the truth is he's a very valuable player because he performs to a high standard wherever asked.

Yeah, he can do a job in the central 2, no doubt. I really do like him in that deeper role though.

I agree, you really can't underestimate how valuable it is to have a player like Mulgrew who will likely do a job in any outfield position, especially one who would run through the proverbial brick walls for the club.

He wasn't dropped from the whole squad - would have started if available I am sure.
