The SPL isn't up to much either. Now I'm not an avid follower of the Spanish second division but I'd hazard a guess and say that the majority of teams in it would beat the likes of Inverness, Dunfermline, Kilmarnock, Motherwell etc etc.

I'm sure we can afford to sign a player with no sell on value just this once. I'm pretty positive that no one was complaining about sell on value when we signed big Jan the man* or the like.

And yes I'm aware that Jan the man was of higher quality than this guy.........

I know what you mean that its a minus that the sell on value would be crap, but imagine if he played for us from his current age (29) untill he is 33, and retires as a Celt that has scored 20 per season, then he would be a legend

No sell on value? Thats the price for an experienced head that knows the game well. We have enough players with potential that will leave the club for a profit one day, surly getting in someone who is an acomplished player with experience holds more value to the club that what they can earn from a resale?

dont really care about resale value and if hes a big target man who can hold the ball up and score with his head, 3 million is fine if the board will spend that much, got a feeling though were going to get someone on loan, maybe Heskey :icon_mrgreen:

Not a hope in * we will pay £3M for a 29 year old striker IMO. Lenny's modus operandi is to go for young players with a building reputation with a potential resale value.

I Believe Sandaza/Novo (just a couple of players to mention)were playing in the lower spanish leagues before coming to Scotland. Both of whom have proved to be very good players in Scotland. So i think he will be pretty good addition to our team.

exactly King Henrik springs to mind.
could easily have sold him on for 15-20mill before we allowed his contract to run down. can't put a price on good experience.

it's all about spreading risks. i would love Baba or Rhodes but i understand why we're not splashing that sought of money on one player.

also, the counterargument could be we bought Kayal, Izaguirre, Boruc and Lubo for the the same price as Fortune.

lennons also recently stated that he would like to get some more older more experienced players into the team to get a better balance of experience versus hunger.

Baba cost less (2.5m) than the reported 3m for this guy.

This guy is 29, and by all accounts he's a decent enough player – but at that age, he's not going to improve with us. We should be taking a chance with a younger, talented player who could become great with us, ala Hopper, Izzy, Kayal, Wanyama, Mathews.

I agree but have you taken into account wages? The wage Sevilla would have offered Baba would blow us out the water.

We do have Bangura and Keatings aswell tho who are very young strikers, there is definately space in the squad for an experienced striker imo
