Club level has never been worse.

National teams have never been better overall.

And we will have a new champion of South America this year, River are out.

This may now be the end of the road for Marcelo Gallardo at the club.

After last nights comfortable wins for Boca and Rosario the last eight is...

    Nacional x Boca Juniors
Independiente del Valle x Pumas de la UNAM
    Atlético Mineiro x São Paulo
    Rosario Central x Atlético Nacional

I think the teams in bold will make the semi-finals.

I don't think Pumas UNAM will make this Clausura's play-offs so they will probably focus on the Libertadores only. I can see them beating Independiente del Valle & Nacional, not so sure about Boca Jrs.

Hope Pumas win it. Barring them, the Colombians or Ecuadorians

They got it lucky by being on the other side of the draw to Atlético Nacional. I think they'll make it to the semi's where Boca (most likely) will be hard, but not as hard as Atlético. I know you can't read too much into league form for the Libertadores, but Boca have been terrible were as Atlético are going well everywhere.

Pumas will just have to hope the ref is better than the last time they played Boca too :icon_mrgreen:

I'd be more confident about Pumas beating Atl. Nacional than Boca, Argentina has our number on knock-out series, be it at NT or club level. :54:

São Paulo into the semi-finals of the Libertadores.

And Flamengo into the Copa Sudamericana after an embarrassing Copa do Brasil defeat to third division Fortaleza.

Boca and Atlético Nacional into the semi-finals. Classic brawl at the end of the Atlético game and they will play São Paulo in the next round.

Santa is going to win the league :icon_mrgreen:

Grafite, remember him? Six goals in three games...

Muricy Ramalho has left Flamengo after only three games into the season. Abel Braga is favourite to replace him. Braga already managed Flamengo, but is famous for losing the Copa do Brasil final to a tiny team called Santo André.

Plaza Colonia are the Clausura champions of Uruguay in their first every season in the top flight. They are the first non-Montevideo based team since Rocha in 2005 to win a league. They could become the first team ever from outside Montevideo to win the overall title.

Last year they were bottom of the second division and about to go bust with money problems. Then they got bought out and went on an 18 game unbeaten run to get promotion.

And now they have won the Clausura at the first time of asking. They will play Peñarol (the Apertura champions) to see who will be overall champion.

    Eat your heart out Leicester.

Argentina squad for the Olympics. Looks a very good squad, maybe not as strong as Brazil up front but a better team overall. The only over age players then picked where the keeper Gerónimo Rulli and the Independiente centre-back Víctor Cuesta.
