The financial constraints that Strachan had to operate under must be taken into account, but towards the end the football was pretty dire.

O'Neill gave me the best years of my life and if we had won in seville there would be no contest but I was mightilly tempted to go for big Wim Jansen what he done was monumental WIM YNWA.

    Had to be O'Neill though

Why has everything got to be a comparison, can't we enjoy the fact we reached the last 16 twice under WGS AND got to Seville under MON.

Martin O'Neil. Dragged us out of the mire that was the 90's and buried a second coming of David Murrays millions.

There was a lot of managers out there that would have been swept away with the team that Advocaat assembled for Rangers.

Without O'Neil we could have still been in the mire

EDIT: Can we please make sure this doesn't end up in petty bickering about Gordon Strachan????

    Some man :50:

There's been some reallly good threads that have just been wasted because of this.

Outside of Strachan and Martin O'Neill I think only Wim Jansen has a look in just for the magnitude of stopping the 10, seeing Walter Smith out the door and signing Henrik Larsson. Realistically though that achievement has nothing on the Ginger Genuis and Saint Martin.

The best footballing team out of these managers by a mile it was Tommy Burns; if ever there was a team that deserved a league title it was that one.

    Magnificent to watch.

    Of course we can.

If we can't make comparisons however the thread is null and void.

For the most part I loved/love our time under MON, WGS & Neil Lennon but I could not bring myself to vote for anybody but Tommy Burns.

Tommy Burns had good sides but unfortunately R****** had the flying pig. Jansen done brilliant for us and i look at him as almost a saviour, coudn't take them lot winning 10 in a row, but MON and WGS, some of the European nights were superb. Personally, i voted for MON. Lennon has made a good start and long may it continue but couldn't vote for him, hasn't been in charge long enough.

Got to be Burns. The signings he made and the brand of football he taught was world class... Undefeated in the season 95/96... League top scorer... 31 games unbeaten... Gutted

    1) Win Jansen for stopping 10 in a row and buying henke for £650k
    2) although MON had the passion and won trophies.
    3) strachan kind of had it easy as Huns were * under PLG.

But ask again in 3 years and the answer will no doubt be Lennon the hunskelper. He's brought back the thunder and no doubt the trophies will follow.

Lennon bleeds Green and White. legend in the making.

    In lennon we trust

    hail hail:shamrock:

Have to say MON, he gave us our pride back, and put us back on the European map making us a force again. Some of the records he set for us were outstanding.
