Need to ask a few questions:50:

I recently moved into my new flat, I have phone sockets etc.. But I've connected any phone to them, I phoned sky and they said they will give me a phone line and broadband on a deal, they said they where sending a tech guy out, any idea why this tech guy is coming out when I already have phone sockets? does he need to connect my land-line up or something??

Probably just to check that your flat has all the right things to install.

I work for a company that installs telephone systems; it's not always that simple.

Of course it could be that simple but it's always better to check first.

If it's Sky won't they have to check it's a BT line? Pretty sure that's what happened to us when we got Sky in.

They checked my area when I was on the phone, they said there sending a tech guy out to get it set up, I've never ever touched the phone sockets, so I guess I don't have a line?

I installed lines into houses for years.

If the line has been lying idle, there is a chance he will have to reconnect it at a nearby pcp (telephone cabinet).

He will probably only need into the house to place a tone on the main socket, then leave to trace the tone outside at a pcp, then connect it to the e-side wire coming from the exchange.

If everything is as it should be,he should be no longer than 10 minutes, and no more than 2 minutes in your flat.

But thats aslong as all as it should be and he does not have any problems between your flat and the cabinet.

If that is your connection date it should be,its just a matter of them making sure B.T have your line switched on in the exchange.

Check that is your connection date.

Subbed of them devlin, but more or less work directly with them.

Just worked at the housing end.

There is not much more they can cut until they get to the bare bones, everything is nearly subbed out.

I think they are cutting some form of pay,but they need to be careful or the companies they sub out to will soon be dictating their demands to B.T.

The people in B.T who actually take an order for a phone line, from my experience, are arseholes.

That's basically what we think of them. The people who you need to report faulty lines to are worse. 1 in 10 know what there doing.

Think they are basically all subbed out now. Takes ages for them to organise things nowadays.

    I work for VM

Normally technicians come out to switch the sockets on in the cabinets.

Or in extreme cases to check and see if everything is ok or that another service provider hasnt run there cable through the existing slot.
