GARY CALDWELL will demand new Celtic boss Tony Mowbray backs up his words with hard CASH or else he'll quit Parkhead.

Caldwell is free to sign for any club on a Bosman in just over six months.

SunSport understands Premiership and European clubs are showing interest in the 27-year-old, who finished last season as captain.

Caldwell has been disappointed with the fact Celtic chief Peter Lawwell has so far failed to table a fresh deal or even start negotiations. It is even believed he has privately questioned the club's desire to keep him.

Lawwell, though, will argue that at the end of last year he activated a 12-month option on Caldwell's existing contract.

Celtic's next move could prove critical for a key defender who cost them nothing but is now valued in the £3million bracket.

At his unveiling Mowbray said: "I will speak to Gary the first chance I get. Gary might have huge aspirations to move to the English Premier League, I will assess his thinking and see where we go with it."

Meanwhile, Mowbray insists Neil Lennon will prove invaluable if he is to hit the ground running at Parkhead.

He said: "I'm happy for him to continue in a very similar role. He can help me on the training ground with regards to the different personalities of the players

Doesn't matter if it's true or not tbh.

Any player who doesn't want to be here can * off as far as I'm concerned. And I mean any player. I've never understood why fans get so worked up over players being out of contract or looking to renegotiate.

Players come and go. * happens.

Isn't the squad on holiday the now? They return for training on July 1st and am sure that is when all official team business will happen i.e. contract negotiations.

    Great point mate.

I have always beleived that if a player starts getting to big a head and makes massive demands, its time to show them the door.

Look at Ronaldo at Man Utd, he got too big and they moved him on now Real have to deal with his ego.

Although would treat any tabloid story with no quotes or evidence as pish.

    Pretty disgraceful piece of journalism.

Ask Caldwell where he wants to be for the next 5 years and you can bet he would say Celtic.
