Anyway if it is £7million, I won't be too unhappy. Was hoping for more, but if we sell a few then maybe this will go up.

Good work by the board if they do give him a substantial budget after getting the right man. :50:

The rumour is that the budget will be in the region of £7m. If he sells anyone then the proceeds will probably be added to it.

To be honest, many of us on here said that's what it would be weeks/months ago. So I don't think anyone should be, or will be, surprised.

Just goes to show there is quite a few sensible/knowledgable Celtic fans on this forum. :50:

7 million is far from substantial, the honest truth is the board could give him 25 million outright and still be in a healthy situation but they wont as they are running a business, 10 million will be the likely amount and that is simply not enough in an increasing market.

I think we need to go out and bring in three or four proven players, either good bosman deals or players that are 4-5 million bracket. we signed sutton, hartson and lennon at the high end price and look at how many years good service we got. If you add up all the dross we have signed over the last three years value for money has been poor. I know its a bigger gamble but it cant be just as big a gamble bringing in quantity rather than quality. We have some really good young players coming through and they need these 3-4 players to bring there game to the next level.

I have...and your wrong. £25M expenditure would NOT leave us in a healthy state.

There is no way Celtic can afford to spend £25million on transfer fees, we have to be realistic.

think we could stretch to between 10-12 million, what with the wage bill being substantially lower due to players leaving, but no more than that.

even then, that would have to be spent on a number of players, meaning players in the 4-5 million bracket would likely be ruled out.

another factor is any money raised from players leaving, although this is likely to be fairly minimal unless one of boruc/brown/mcgeady leaves.

if we got offered between 3/4 million for mcmanus i'd gladly take it.
