I don't see what their problem about him is....

He's better than Robinson, Hart, Carson etc. and obviously more experienced than Foster... James is nearly 40 lyk....

If I was an England fan then I'd want him there, at least as an option...

I personally think Almunia is garbage. If he has to think about what he has to two for more than a second he screws it up.

He's maybe not the best goalkeeper there for England but the other options are either tried and failed (Robinson/James), or unknown (and certainly inexperienced) quantities (Hart/Foster).

I've got a feeling that Reina is number 2, and Valdes wouldn't be far off?

Reina is number 2 for Spain, the Villareal keeper is 3rd choice :50:

I dont think Valdes has ever played for Spain. Dont know if thats his choice of he has just never been picked.

Because I strongly oppose the notion that this guy should have the opportunity to play for England. The rules are nonsense and need sorted.

If I want to watch an international match with different nationalitys playing in the same team then I'll watch a club match

    Thats why.

I think people should be able to play for another country if they become a citizen of a country, not just "be eligible for a passport." I think you should have to go through the trials that average people have to if you want to naturalize, not just happen to work in the same place for x amount of years. So I agree with your sentiment, but believe that if someone truly is changeing their nationality they should have a chance to play for their new country. None of this mercenary * though.

yeh...absolutely.I'm sure if the Spanish FA suddenly called Almunia and said "we want you to be our No. 1" he wouldnt say "Nah...I'm English now"

Only Nacho Novo would knock back the Spanish FA since he's retired from int football.

Almunia is an average keeper, nothing more. I dont see the fuss made over him anyway. But why is he not playing for spain. Its madness.

I personally think u should only be eligible to play for your country if you were born in it. (in terms of ireland , im refering to the whole island, north and south)

I think this ''granny rule'' has been used by some players such as jonathan macken , clinton morrison in desperation to play international football, because they werent good enough to play for england.

In fairness to mcgeady he chose ireland from a young age and has developed into one of our best players in the senior squad.
