Following on from JC's post I was hoping to establish which of the three categories Celtic Fan, Hun or Troll you fit into.

For those who are in love.....
I was excited as * about Sinclair. Knew he'd absolutely tear it to shreds..

Difference with Sinclair and McLean is, Sinclair was of very high stock in England. Chelsea as a kid. Man City after killing it with Swansea..

Had some bad career moves at side's he'd never flourish in and just wasn't good enough for the very best English side's..

I know you've acknowledged Sinclair is probably better but for me there is quite a gap between the pair..

I've no doubt he would come up and do quite well for us either but I feel we could get better out there. Especially when Sinclair is the better player and they play directly on the same wing, for the Epl wages and outlay, to just be competing with Sinclair.....isn't worth pursuing..

If most agree that Sinclair is a better than McLean how can we expect McLean to make the impact we're looking for in Europe?

Probably at his peak just now at 28.

Celtic fan and occasional troll, but this thread is not about me. I'd rather discuss football, if you don't mind.

If I think he'd be another Stokes then that's my prerogative surely? And by the reactions that opinion has gotten, I think I would be proven correct should McClean sign.

Chill out mate I've got nothing against McClean. Don't let patriotism rule your heid, they are both pretty average players irrespective of who has more caps.

If you lined them up together for a sprint... they would be similar.
If you lined them up together for finishing or shooting ability... they would be similar.
If you lined them up together for set piece delivery... they would be similar.
If you lined them up together for passing with vision... they would be similar.
If you lined them up together for ability to beat a man... they would be similar.

The only definitive edge I would give to mcClean would be for his Club C.V and defensive qualities with extra height and physique. So you've won your argument you can go to bed happy tonight!

We need better if we are to get to where we want to be as a club... and that is a force in Europe. End of.

MON rates James as good enough to be his number one whereas Hayes would not even make it as his understudy. I think at this stage Martin would know the qualities of both players and his judgement would be pretty reliable

January 2018 aye, he’d still command a decent fee with 18 months left on his contract.

What has patriotism got to do with the fact that one has 50 caps over the other and they play for the same country in the same position?

Regardless of caps it’s obvious to anyone that has watched both even a couple of times that McClean is a far better player.

Patriotism as everything to with the underlying point of the thread and the credentials he has to play for us. We have signed so many Irish players in the past who clearly weren't anything special. I for one don't want another just for the sake of being decent and Irish. Whats the point... I want real quality at Celtic.

It' not obvious to me that one is vastly superior to the other so you can think what you like about that chief.

Pointless discussion really. James McClean will not be signing for Celtic as long as Brendan is in charge... fact! I like the guys passion for Celtic but he is comparible to Hayes in every department... only snag you all seem to be forgetting is he is probably on 4-5 times what Hayes is on and he is certainly not 4-5 times the player or someone who represents room for growth/sell on value.

Would you rather have Sinclair on the left or McLean... we have better already.

Hayes would be playing for likes of Barnsley or Burton Albion if he played in England. It's bizarre people even compare them as McClean is so many levels above in ability.

Guaranteed 12+ goals a season feom a midfield role.
He will also provide that extra bit of bite that we need in midfield - we can't keep relying on Broony to provide it.

The lad would be a sensation with us.
