Finished book 10 of Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series Frostbitten. A return to the werewolf characters of the first 2 books in the series and another enjoyable read.

Finished Ken Bruen's The Magdalen Martyrs. The third book in the Galway authors Jack Taylor crime series set in Galway and nothing short of brilliant. At times dark at times witty and funny always brilliant. Loved this one.

Finished book 11 of Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series Waking the Witch. As the title suggests this one is focused on the witches in the series and is another fun and enjoyable read.

Trying to read ’Shuggy Bain’ by Douglas Stuart, set in Glasgow in early 80/90’s, I was 15 in 1980 and it’s a brutal read at times so far, it won the booker prize though I don’t know if that’s a good recommendation or not.

Finished book 2 in the series after needing a bit of escapism recently. This had been sitting on the shelf since before Christmas as its quite a long book but once i got going it was definitely a fun read, differentiating between fact and fiction in the UFO/conspiracy theory field. Would recommend.

Moved up to Northumberland in Feb.

5 mins walk from this place, which is great ( if you can ignore all the Butcher's Aprons.)

The book is basically written by his younger brother Packy and their difficult relationship. Chuck was never really part of the outfit or even knew whether he wanted to be, however he could never get away from it or really knew if he wanted to. Obviously everyone can choose to believe as much as they want, the title is good though. The intrigues involving presidents and "organised crime" and especially the CIA and "organised crime" are fascinating. A personal criticism would be it seemed like another of those books that I became enthralled by and then just seemed to fizzle out. ( Maybe they just rang everything out of it they could.)

Finished Lars Brownworth's Lost To The West. A concise but very good look at the 1000 odd years that the Eastern Roman Empire lasted after the Western half collapsed in the 5th century CE. Makes some very good points about how important the Byzantine Empire as the Eastern Half of the Roman Empire became know was to the development of Europe in later centuries and to also how some of the mistrusts between east and west in Europe can be traced back to the later centuries of the Byzantine Empire.

Do you know I was actually looking very briefly into the Byzantine empire a couple of weeks back. More to do with right wing extremists having a fascination with the flag. It’s definitely something I will be looking into as I know all the usual Roman, Greek, British and European powers but not much at all about the Byzantine.

    Is it interesting?

I would for sure recommend this book if your looking into Byzantium which as the book talks about was the continuation of the Eastern Roman Empire for about a 1000 years after the fall of Rome and the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century. It is basically a history of the Eastern Roman Empire from the 5th century on till its fall in 1453. The 2 headed eagle flag is mentioned in passing a few times but nothing in any great detail. He does show in the book though as the centuries passed that the differences and divide between east and west grew and developed intensely into mistrust during the period of the crusades a mistrust we of course still suffer from today in many ways.

Finished book 12 of Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series Spellbound. The first book which brings together all the different supernatural characters introduced earlier and another fun read.

Finished Thirteen which is the 13th and final book in Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld supernatural series. The last book carries on right from where book 12 ended and is a good conclusion to the series with all the various different supernatural characters involved in the final book.

    Mother’s Reckoning by Sue Klebold.

It’s the mother of one of the Columbine Massacre shooters who wrote it, it documents his upbringing by her and how she has managed to move on with life after the massacre.

A difficult read at times when you consider how it’s from the heart of a monsters mother. I don’t know how she was able to move forward.
