So is there any real advantage of getting the edition with the disk drive?

    I guess I couldn’t play PS4 games on it unless I did?

I think it is mental that anyone would consider a digital edition but I am old fashioned that way. Buying physical means you can lend it to pals. Sell on games you've played or sell if the game ends up *.

Anyone else having problems pre ordering? Smyths sent me an email saying pre order now but when I click in it's saying 'out of stock' surely your stock is based on the amount of pre orders you receive?

Very are taking pre orders just now too. I am going to wait before ordering either the XBS1 or PS5. I have a fair backlog as it is and nothing has blown me away yet. Well Demons souls actually but I will get that further down the line.

Will be waiting till both more games and the next model number (if needed).
I'm in no rush as I game a lot more on pc now, but will buy the disk version for sure when I do.
Too many blurays and box sets I still enjoy to watch.
Plus most times disk games are cheaper than download.

Managed to get the pre order through Amazon.

The games that are being added to PS Plus on release actually look pretty good, will be good for Xbox players that are switching over, will have a fair few games to play straight away

This, plus buying games from the PS Store costs more than buying them from Amazon.

Even some games that have been out for years will be on the PS Store for 25 quid, and on Amazon or Game for £10-15.

No idea why anyone would buy digital. The console is cheaper, but over the long run it will be far more expensive.

Ao.com still has stock, and you can finance it if you don't have the money today

I’m not going to bother with pre-ordering. In the unlikely event of seeing one out in the wild, then maybe I’ll cave in, but I can live with waiting. I’m always a bit wary buying the first batch of consoles given how often issues tend to crop up. I got a PS4 more or less at launch and it ended up dying after a couple of hours.

The digital version is basically false economy when you consider how awful digital pricing tends to be here. I get the convenience and clutter aspect (and they do run some decent sales nowadays) but physical games rarely retain their value for long and you at least have the chance of getting a discount Day 1.

The biggest issue for me is the potential £70 games. I very rarely buy games at launch anymore, but there’s absolutely no chance that I’ll ever pay £70 for the standard release of a game. We’ve literally gone from £30 (PS2) to £40 (PS3) to £50 (PS4) and now we’re seeing a price range, at launch anyway, from £50 to £70. I’ve seen attempts at justifying it because the US hasn’t had a price increase for a long time, but we’ve literally had to deal with it every generation.
