    K.O. 2pm. Broadwood Stadium.

    CLYDE 0-3 CELTIC

    SCORERS: Ntcham (16) Brown (40) Bayo (90)

All the hype and build up before the game predictably focused on a Scottish Cup tie in 2006 at the same stadium. Every Clyde fan can rhyme of the team that literally took Celtic apart that bright January day where two disallowed Clyde goals and a saved penalty by Boruc before the hosts went 2-0 up. Clyde were superior in every department that day and a late goal by Celtic done nothing to help the cause. As for the Celtic lineup, we boasted players like the Boss himself, Lennon, Hartson, McManus, Nakamura and debutants Du Wei and Roy Keane. Yesterday the Clyde legends from that day took to the field before kickoff to fire some spirit and inspiration to the current bunch. It was to be expected.

As Lennon was present at the heart of the team on that occasion the hoops fans would hope he would drive home the importance of a win against their lowly rivals. Lightning can strike twice but with torrential winds and rain showing up in abundance it was the Irish named storm Ciara who would be very prominent in this game from start to finish. A brutal day for playing a game of football and even a sell out crowd were well wrapped up for their place in the stands but they created a great atmosphere.

A few Bhoys were given the day off or reserved for the bench in place for a few fresh starters who would be given a chance to shine. In came keeper Bain, Bolingoli, Elyounoussi, Christie and Klimala all making a start. The bench boasted new signing Soro, Shved, Bayo and a couple of other regulars. This was certainly a time for rotating with the weather bad and another plastic surface although the pitch gave more movement to the ball than at Hamilton.

Clyde were organised enough in the opening exchanges but Celtic grew quickly in confidence and possession but the wind was making it fairly difficult for both sides. Ntcham and Brown were the more industrious of the hoops players and was no surprise to see Ntcham pick the ball up on the left side at the edge of a crowded box, he struck the ball with power and precision to fire the ball across Clyde Keeper David Mitchell and into his right corner on the 16th minute. A brilliant strike for French birthday boy Olivier Ntcham and his confident consistency continues and from here Celtic built upwards.

Christie next stepped up to take a rattle at the hosts net only for it to drift wide and very soon he sent a defence splitter nicely weighted onto new Polish striker Patryk Klimala. Bearing down one on one with keeper Mitchell he lacked that killer instinct when he shot straight into the goalies chest who had made himself big. A poor miss but also a good save. The second goal wasn’t far away and it was ‘El Capitan’ Scott Brown on the 40th minute to wedge open daylight between the two teams. A flick from Klimala from an incoming corner sent the ball to the front post and Brown getting down to bend his leg around his marker to tap it over the line.

Second half we took to the pitch with the wind behind our backs which made me and I’m sure other fans believe another few goals were on the cards. It didn’t happen but we were always on top without question. We spent a fair amount of time on the attack and not much to do at the back. Three subs were made as the game wore out with Hayes on for Forrest (71) Bayo for Klimala (75) and the final sub a rare appearance for Shved when he came on in place for Elyounoussi. All subs played a part in the final scenes with competent play. The Clyde crossbar prevented a Ryan Christie goal when he let fly and efforts by Shved and Bayo required more composure.

Goal number 3 did arrive when Christie intervened and played in Bauer on the right who made into the opposition box with pace and purpose. With nice footwork and head down he took out two defenders and passed one on his shoulder to literally tee up an awaiting Bayo to convert into the net. This seemed to elevate the crowd to the loudest cheer of the afternoon. We love to see our players turning things around and hopefully this is a start to a purple patch for big Bayo.

Game won comfortably on a surface that is never ideal and mostly unscathed as it was a clean contest between the two teams. The Celtic fans went home happy in the knowledge we go into the last 8 draw in a march we hope will bring the quadruple treble but the league still being the main objective. Clyde fans went home happy in the knowledge they had a big pay day with a bumper crowd and this is important in the grand scheme of things. Ntcham scored his 4th Scottish Cup goal in 8 appearances and Celtic’s 12th away win among other stats and broken records. Lenny tasted defeat here before and made sure it wasn’t a repeat. I feel this season is going to be memorable for years to come with so many different factors at play. Onwards to victory.

FUNNY MOMENT: New signing Patryk Klimala took to the field in the number 11 jersey and his name misspelled. KILMALA. Noted by Premier Sport commentary team Stephen Craigan and Chris Sutton.
Craigan: That would be the Kit man’s fault.
Sutton: I know the kit man. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.
