TO honour our Club’s founding principles and the existing aims of Celtic FC Foundation, we are proud to announce support measures during the current coronavirus crisis for the most vulnerable in our community through the Football for Good Fund.

An initial £150,000 will be available for those who need it most. Monies have been allocated from Celtic FC Foundation, supported by Celtic Football Club.

These are extraordinary times for everyone. The fear, uncertainty, upheaval and disruption to everyday life through the COVID-19 outbreak, is like nothing we have experienced before. Quite rightly, our priority is keeping our loved ones and families safe. Health and the financial burdens are in the forefront of all of our thoughts.

Primarily, we are looking to provide assistance to vulnerable families, pensioners, individuals who have been affected financially by the crisis, the homeless and frontline NHS staff who are going above and beyond to protect each and every one of us.

Starting from this coming midweek, we will:

    - Feed around 250 people, including NHS frontline staff, at Celtic Park over three sittings, every week day (within the parameters of Government guidance around social distancing)

    - Grow delivery to reach the most vulnerable and isolated through the local Foodbank network

    - Provide funding to a host of our charity partners to urgently provide food to the most vulnerable in our community

With self-isolation and social distancing currently being essential for certain groups such as elderly people and those with underlying health issues, and recommended for everyone else, we will also be making a concerted effort to reach out by telephone to our existing participants and new client groups that find themselves alone.

FULL DETAILS ON THE FOOTBALL FOR GOOD FUND, TIMES OF CELTIC PARK FOOD SESSIONS, AND HOW TO GET INVOLVED WILL BE ANNOUNCED EARLY NEXT WEEK.

Celtic’s Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, said: “Our Club was born to bring comfort to the most vulnerable on our doorstep and we strive to maintain that charitable principle today, through the work of Celtic FC Foundation.

“The current climate we face is both alien and daunting and, as a family, we must do everything in our power to provide assistance and comfort to those who need it most.

“The Celtic support have continually epitomised the essence of our Club in their charitable actions and I hope that this Fund will provide a focus for a concerted team effort to provide a lifeline to so many.”

Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation’s Chief Executive added: “These are exceptional and surreal times for all of us. What was normal even a week ago has gone, and many families and individuals are now rightly worried about their families, their health and their jobs.

“This is primarily about helping people with the money we have, it’s not about fundraising, although we would clearly like to do more as we could be in this for the long haul. We know that a lot of people who normally help Celtic FC Foundation will not be able to help this time.

“The priority areas are organisations who care for vulnerable pensioners, the homeless community and those who run Foodbanks. And we will play our part in helping frontline NHS staff who work tirelessly for all of us. There will also be many new Foodbank users in the coming months and while many people are stockpiling food, even less is going to the Foodbanks.

“We are very grateful for anything you can do to help us further protect our vulnerable neighbours through this crisis. Thank you from everyone at the Club and the Foundation.”

To register for further details on the Football for Good Fund or any other Celtic FC Foundation activities, please email cfcfoundation@celticfc.co.uk and we will respond to you as soon as we possibly can

FOLLOWING our Football for Good Fund announcement on Friday, Celtic FC Foundation, supported by Celtic FC, are pushing on with plans to help those most in need in our communities. Many families have been severely affected and need urgent support.

There are also countless vulnerable elderly people, individuals who have been impacted financially, and the homeless community who are suffering to an even greater extent through the COVID-19 crisis.

With Celtic’s Fund now sitting at £175,000, our priority remains putting food on the table, as well as urgent essentials for those most in need.

Given the updated Government advice and guidance around staying at home, through our first phase of action we are working with a variety of local partners to provide urgent food and essentials to those in our communities who are in greatest need.

These include our partners Glasgow North East Foodbank, Golden Generation (for the elderly) and a range of organisations supporting vulnerable children, families and the homeless, such as FARE Scotland, Spirit Aid, The Salvation Army, Action for Children, Help the Homeless and The Wayside Club.

Our support of people in those vulnerable categories has also extended to additional locations in Scotland, England and Ireland, including Edinburgh, London, Dublin and Belfast. And crucially, we are also working with a partner to try and find a way to feed frontline NHS staff in Glasgow.

Celtic Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, said: “As things have progressed over the course of the last few days, showing support for others is now even more crucial than ever. As a Club with a proud charitable heritage, there’s a real sense of responsibility to do all we can to help those, particularly on our doorstep, who need it most.

“That’s exactly what Celtic FC Foundation strive to do on a daily basis but this current challenge is like one we have never faced before. Therefore, our sense of community is absolutely crucial in this fight.

“As well as following Government guidance to stay at home whenever possible, we will also reach out to NHS frontline staff and those who are most vulnerable through our fantastic partners as we do everything in our power to carry each other through this crisis.”

Tony Hamilton, Chief Executive of Celtic FC Foundation, added: “The situation for many of our neighbours has worsened in the past few days as this crisis has shifted. People are losing income, and with it their ability to feed themselves and their families.

“Our top priority is assisting with that in the communities where we have relationships with existing partner organisations. Thanks to everyone who has made this possible for us. Even in such uncertain and difficult times, the consistency has been the selflessness of the Celtic support who have stepped up to offer assistance when it’s needed."

AS we continue to support those most in need in our communities, we turn our focus to another of the charity partners who will benefit through the Football for Good Fund- Birth, Baby & Beyond, who have been given £5,000 to support their work.

Founded in 2012, Birth, Baby & Beyond is a children's charity based in Glasgow that provides free starter packs of essential baby and child items to families in need.

To date the organisation have helped over 35,000 families with essential baby and child items and have reduced hundreds of tons of perfectly usable baby items from becoming landfill.

Natasha Earle, Founder and Chief Executive of Birth, Baby & Beyond, spoke about what her organisation were doing during the current coronavirus crisis.

She said: “In addition to our ongoing work, we are also providing free emergency baby packs to families facing financial difficulties at this uncertain time. In order to do this, our charity is actively fundraising to allow us to purchase the most essential baby items such as food, bottles and nappies to put into packs.

“Families can contact our charity and self-refer for a pack on allocated days. Once a family has claimed a free pack our volunteers put the items together and deliver it to the families home via our contact-free delivery service, normally on the same day.”

Natasha Earle also expressed her thanks for the support received, saying: “Everyone at Birth, Baby & Beyond, including our volunteers, service users and supporters are extremely grateful for the support Celtic FC Foundation has given us at this difficult time.

“The support from the Football for Good Fund has enabled Birth, Baby & beyond to purchase a large stock of essential baby items such as formula milk, baby food, nappies and bottles. Without the immediate support the Foundation has provided, many families would not have received such a fast and safe delivery service form Birth, Baby & Beyond.

CELTIC FC Foundation is today (Monday) delighted to announce the launch of a new schools project, as part of our Football for Good Fund. A total donation of over £30,000 will be provided to 12 local schools and nurseries to help support pupils and families throughout the current COVID-19 crisis.

Around 1,600 pupils and families will benefit from the support measures provided, which include family cooking packs and activity boxes which we hope will help to alleviate some of the mental health issues brought on by the financial burdens people are currently facing.

The generous £30,000 funding donation has now been allocated to 12 schools and nurseries. They are: Barmulloch Primary School, Broomlea Primary School, Cranhill Primary School, Keppoch Nursery, Royston Nursery, Royston Primary School, Saracen Primary School, St Francis Primary School, St Mungo’s Primary School, St Roch’s Primary School, Stepping Stones Nursery and St Teresa’s Primary School.

The schools project represents another milestone for the Football for Good Fund, with a total of £450,000 having already been committed through the campaign. Our priority during this time remains to put food on the table, as well as to distribute urgent essentials to those most in need.

Thus far we have provided funds to around 55 organisations supporting vulnerable children, families and the homeless and launched two projects through our partnership with Glasgow North-East Foodbank - a free self-referral service providing food parcels for people living in Glasgow affected by the current COVID-19 crisis, as well as a service providing food parcels to those who have been discharged from hospital - to ensure that they have access to food upon returning home.

We have also worked in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and Cathedral House to deliver 100 hot meals to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary every day for NHSGGC staff across all roles and wards.

Separately, our support has also extended to additional locations in Scotland, England and Ireland, including Skye, Greenock, Oban, Edinburgh, London, Newcastle, Dublin and Belfast. In addition, we have supported two partner charities in New York, Coalition for the Homeless and Childrens Aid, to provide food and essentials to vulnerable children and families in the city.

Celtic FC Foundation is hugely appreciative of everyone who has supported the Football for Good Fund so far and we will continue to harness this goodwill and support those most at need in these uncertain and difficult times.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “While we continue to work through the current crisis and hopefully see some better times ahead, we are aware that so many families continue to suffer real difficulty and hardship. This project, working together with local schools and nurseries will deliver real support to those in need.

"We have now committed £450,000 across a range of projects within the Football for Good initiative and I would like to thank everyone at our Foundation who continue, in such difficult times, to make such a positive difference in our local communities.”

Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, added: “This project will be hugely important in providing some much needed assistance to people who are very deserving of our support. So many people continue to feel the negative effects of this crisis. It’s important we keep focused on our communities through this enormously challenging time for families and this continues to be our focus.”

AS we continue to support those most in need in our communities, we turn our focus to another of the charity partners who will benefit through the Football for Good Fund - FareShare, who have been given £10,000 to support their work.

Based in Glasgow, FareShare is run by homelessness prevention charity Move On and redistributes surplus food to frontline charities and community groups.

The organisation’s aim is to deliver a food service to those who need it most, including homeless people, elderly people, children, refugees and people suffering mental and physical health problems.

FareShare also supplies a network of not-for-profit organisations, known as Community Food Members, from their Glasgow warehouse. The Community Food Members include hostels, day centres, lunch clubs, addiction agencies, young people’s projects and refugee centres.

John Hinton, Executive Director of Move On, spoke about what FareShare were doing during the current coronavirus crisis.

He said: “We’ve been busier than ever since lockdown started and have had to double the volume of food we distribute to meet demand. Since the start of lockdown, 218 tonnes of food, equivalent to over 519,000 meals, has been distributed from our warehouse in Glasgow.

“The disruption caused by the pandemic has hit vulnerable people the hardest, with widespread job losses, delays to benefits and foodbanks struggling as panic buying reduces donations.

“We’ve also seen schools and community centres closed, and many of our partners have been forced to adapt their service delivery. Much of our food is being turned into food parcels or home cooked meals and delivered door to door.

“We have had fantastic feedback from individuals and families, who have said our food supply is really helping alleviate some of this stress throughout these difficult times.”

John also thanked Celtic FC Foundation for the support received, saying: “Panic buying meant that the surplus food we rely on significantly reduced, so the funding from Celtic FC Foundation allowed us to purchase food directly from our suppliers instead.

“If it hadn’t been for this funding, we would have been unable to provide our vital food supply to the thousands of vulnerable people that rely on our support.

“We want to say an enormous thank you to Celtic FC Foundation for their generous support. The funding we received has been essential to keep our service running during this difficult time.

“We’re working with frontline organisations across Glasgow and the West of Scotland, so the support we’ve received has made a big difference to people’s lives from Dumfries and Galloway all the way up to the Isle of Mull.”

FareShare joins a host of organisations already confirmed as Football for Good Fund beneficiaries, including Geeza Break, Glasgow’s Golden Generation (for the elderly), FARE Scotland, Eric Liddell Centre, Glasgow North-East Foodbank, Birth, Baby and Beyond and NHS frontline staff at the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow.

CELTIC FC Foundation, supported by Celtic FC, is delighted today to announce that our Football for Good Fund has risen to over £700K, as we continue to deliver much-needed support to those affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Celtic FC Foundation’s entire focus has been redirected to alleviating the evolving complications of the crisis and so far we are delighted to report that the following has been achieved:

    - 11,000 hot meals served to frontline NHS staff

    - 35,000 vulnerable families and individuals supported
    - Assistance provided to 9,000 vulnerable pensioners
    - 4,000 people facing homelessness supported
    - 1,600 primary school pupils supported

Celtic Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, said: “As a club with a proud charitable heritage, we have had a real sense of responsibility to do all we can to help those affected by the pandemic, particularly people on our doorstep.

“Celtic has been at the forefront of UK football, delivering valuable support to thousands of people. The figures show the real, meaningful impact of our work.

“The club, our fans, our sponsors and partners have joined forces to deliver a crucial, powerful response to this crisis which has been second to none and we thank everyone involved. This work will continue and as long as we can help and make a difference, Celtic will be here to do so.”

Our work includes providing funds to around 55 partner charities and community organisations who are supplying vital food and essentials to those who need it most in Glasgow and Lanarkshire, Greenock, Oban, Edinburgh, Fife, The Isle of Skye, London, Newcastle, Dublin and Belfast.

We have also set up a project that supports pupils and families at 12 Glasgow-based schools and nurseries, providing family cooking packs and activity boxes which we hope will help to alleviate some of the mental health issues brought on by the financial burdens people are currently facing.

Separately, our partnership initiatives with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, Cathedral House Hotel and 1051GWR have provided hundreds of hot meals each day for frontline staff at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Gartnavel Hospitals and the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

And our partnership with Glasgow North East Foodbank continues in the form of two projects - one offering a free food parcel self-referral service for people living in Glasgow affected by the COVID-19 crisis and the other working with the NHS to supply food and essentials packages for patients who have been discharged from hospital.

Internationally, we have also provided assistance to two partner charities in New York – Coalition for the Homeless and Children’s Aid – who are ensuring that food and essentials reach vulnerable children and families in the city.

Celtic FC Foundation is immensely grateful to everyone who has supported the Football for Good Fund so far and we will continue to harness this goodwill and support those most in need in these uncertain and difficult times.

Tony Hamilton, Chief Executive of Celtic FC Foundation, added: “Since March of this year, all our work had been dedicated to helping those affected by this crisis. We have achieved great results, helping thousands of people in need and I would like to thank all our staff for their fantastic work.

"Our sincere thanks to everyone who has supported our work. This is work which will not stop. We will continue to ensure that Celtic plays a vital role in helping people in need.”

Since the launch of the Fund and throughout the next six months or so, the Foundation has ensured and will continue to ensure food parcels, basic necessities, hot meals and other critical interventions are available to the growing number of people affected by the ruthlessness of COVID-19.
