Cheers for this mate, makes sense. Ajax were insane lately, if he’s not been happy there I can see why. And the Antwerp stuff, I like that and it’s a positive if we are going for him.

Despite me mistaking him for someone else, I’m sure at 20/21 he was very highly rated. And being the first choice Netherlands Lb at that age, however brief it lasted 11 caps or so, that’s someone who definitely has talent, if he didn’t have these sorta issues at Ajax, continued thd trajectory he was on at AZ we can’t get him, but if we can now we can try and get him back to that trajectory.

But the key thing is the attitude, I’m Ange like opinion with that - right attitude and mindset first, then the talent. We need to make sure of the first if we’re going for anyone, but when there’s some question marks over a guy, we need to be extra diligent, unfair reputation from better fans or club or not.

And one thing we all can agree on - Bernabei was the backup last year.

So automatically we’ve improved from last year, but might have improved from then him * off as well:56:

Has he actually btw:56:? If this isn’t a bam up is it as a LWB haha? I was convinced he’s not a LB, not quite a winger either:56:

EDIT: Googled him and realised he’s just on loan. Devastated:56:

Nah he’s playing as a left back. Don’t know what happening when he initially made the loan but he was basically cast out. They had a break over there, seems to have gotten in the team and he’s been class.

Played the last 5 games over there and averaging a 7.51 in performances, which would put him in the top 10 players in the Brazilian league on current form. Not just in terms of left backs but the whole league :giggle1:

So seems we're desperate to sign a left back called Owen then.

We signed him for about £3.75m, so aye, basically £4m.

I believe they have an option to buy him permanently for about £2.5m. If he continues this way until December, they will pay it. They may even activate it end of this window if his form continues. He got a 7.9 rating on Wednesday night :giggle1:

All I'm taking from this is how * the Brazilian league is if he's a success there.

Makes me feel a bit better that we actually had some basis of sanity doing that deal - it’s such a * oddity of a transfer for us. South America, expensive, it’s not our usual. If it turns out he’s not actually mince just was over here I think I’ll feel better:56:

It’s a strange league. There’s utter dugmeat playing over there but then, at the same time, you get some of the best talents around.

There are still some big name players over there, too. Not all of them use it as the retirement home that it once was.

Still unsure about this one. His Antwerp stint was acceptable.
Antwerp fans were 50/50 if they want to keep him. Ajax fans are still believing they are in the Van Gaal era and that they are world beaters. Anyone who isnt a Bergkamp is automatically ‘slappe hap’. Ajax fans say he cant defend? Antwerp were fairly defensive and his side certainly wasnt weak defensively.

    my issue is this: https://m.gva.be/cnt/dmf20240330_97630636?journeybuilder=nopaywall

He easily gets provoked. There are often little annoyances he has on a pitch.

I watch a fair bit of Antwerp and i wouldnt say he performed well mate. He did ok. But certainly wasnt a world beater in the Belgian league. Unsure about him tbh. Think he defo would be an upgrade to GT. its all about the price, maybe try our loan with option strategy. Would have rather went for Sosa who left for Torino apparently.

I know, but he often let himself in these kind of niggles. Loses his concentration for a moment etc. Hazard played him like a fiddle all game leading to this reaction.

That was Lafferty levels of pathetic diving, doesn’t even look he touched him but aye obviously a short fuse which will probably put clubs off.

Should of been all over Sosa with that LTB.

Don't know much about this boy. Appears to have been frozen out by Ajax and that happens for a reason.

Also we need a CB long before a LB.

Ajax are a basket case just now. And we have 1 LB at the club. At least 5 CB’s. Aye, I’d want another CCV level guy in there next to the man himself but we literally only have Greg Taylor at LB, then it’s Ralston backing up LB and RB. LB’s by far priority now Idah’s here.

We don't know if he does want him though. The rumour was we wanted another Ajax LB and they are trying to flog this * to us
