    Thought Air was really good.
Soundtrack is brilliant for somebody like me who grew up in the 80s.

Further confirmation that your standard audience and ‘critics/film buffs that want to be critics’ are miles apart in terms of that they find enjoyable in a film.

96% audience score and 59% critics.

Cos of Celtic, I signed up to the Viaplay cheapo £59 year deal. Anyhoo..it comes with lots of Scandinavian content. So I tried out this Norwegian film, which was pretty good fun.

It's a quirky comedy with good characters, a few good laughs and a few twists. 6.8/10 for me.

'After serving 12 years in jail for murder, Ulrik has to decide whether he wants to start over and build a relationship with his family or get revenge on the people who betrayed him.'

For those of you who have Viaplay / Prime as well I think, this is a very good Danish war film. 7/10

In the early morning of April 9th 1940 the Danish army is alerted. The Germans have crossed the border; Denmark is at war against Europe's strongest army. In Southern Jutland, Danish bicycle - and motorcycle companies are ordered out, against all odds, to hold back the German forces until Danish reinforcements can be mobilized. In the fatal hours, we follow second lieutenant Sand (Pilou Asbæk) and his bicycle company - they will be the first Danish soldiers to meet the enemy in combat on April 9th 1940.

Inmate #1: The rise of Danny Trejo. Ok it's more of a documentary, but it's pretty good. Guy was nuts in his younger days, robbing shops with hand grenades, running wings in San Quentin. Fair turned his life around, pretty sure he's been killed in films more than any other actor too

    White men can't jump.

Thought it would be utter snide but actually not too bad. Not as good as the original but still decent.

    Oof

'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was the final gamble for Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm. With every other franchise and property already sunk, it was their last shot at success. And if the first batch of reviews are anything to go by, the gamble didn't pay off.'

This was actually pretty funny in places. Strange but true? Truth stranger than fiction? Tall tales and true? Whatever it is, it's worth checking out and have a bit of a laugh at the sheer insanity.

Edit - it's based on this as well as 25yrs later...

Monsters University. A must for fans of Monsters Inc. Every bit as good arguably. Although the original was probably my favourite animated film growing up.

Like so much in Hollywood, short of originality, comes another unnecessary live action/computer animation remake of animated property that didn’t really do much to try and distinguish from that, nor do the new songs really add much. They aren’t bad songs, even if none at the level of Under the Sea or Kiss the Girl, but there isn’t a new dimension added etc to the story, which is fine, but again questions why bother with this new version if you’ve had kids/seen the old one. If there is silver lining it’s that Haile Bailey is pretty good as Ariel and can def sing, while Daveed Diggs voicework as Sebastian pretty much steals the show.

    Sisu

An old commando veteran come gold prospector takes on an entire company of * death squad troops set in Finland late in WWII. There is some serious badassness going on here, even if sometimes stretches incredulity. Would gladly sit through this again over any of the John Wicks. At 80-odd min it is pretty well paced, gets in and gets out and definitely worth checking out.

Admittedly I have an odd disconnect with Stephen King adaptations, in that I prefer his non-horror tales (with the exception of IT or Gerald’s Game) such as 11.22.63, Stand By Me, Shawshank and even Running Man over the likes of Pet Semetary, Salem’s Lot or either versions of Firestarter, to name but a few. And so it is with this. Is this supposed to be a paranormal thriller in horror dressing or vice versa? Because it really doesn’t know which it is, so how is the audience? And by trying to straddle the line between it kind of fails at both.

Relying on the AD, I can’t comment about the creatures design, but it is a less gory version of the recent Evil Dead Rises - not that I was particularly impressed with that one either, and tbh if you switched titles, who would know, as the similarities are so self evident? Just comes off as kind of generic.

    *****

Also sat through Sisu again - a real throwback, with the feel of a spaghetti western, this one man WWII actioner is well worth the encore. As an aside (and for any celeb trainspotters out there) the screening I was at for this encore, the novelist Ian Rankin were there also.

    Watched a few recently.

    Beast (2022)

Idris Elba v Lion. Not the worst. 5/10 easy watch with some good moments.

    Sisu (2022)

Old Guy v Nazis. 6/10, good action but a bit silly, although obviously meant to be.

    Dead Man’s Shoes (2004)

Been meaning to watch it for years. Excellent. 8.5/10
