I think the expectation at a club the size of Celtic is too big for him. Like Brattback and Pukki back in the day.

No problems with that, often thought if I was asked to take a penalty for Celtic I’d * myself.

A big part of his problem was he tried too hard when he got his cameos while he was here.

If you look at some of those highlights for Ireland that’s exactly what he tried to do here.

Sure, those runs looks fantastic when they work, but when you come on at 2-1 against St. Johnstone’s packed defence and try that and it doesn’t work out it looks really bad. He would try it again and again until everyone got frustrated.

I’ve always been a fan of Johnston and would love to see him get another chance here, but he needs to manage his dribbling much better.

At the end of the day it’s a very competitive first team we have here and you’re only going to get 15 minutes to impress. You need to pass the ball well and open space for your teammates, not rely on dribbling past players.

Incidentally this is what people don’t notice about Jota. He does so much more than just try to dribble to the byline.

Grand old team to play for
I remember reading something last year which said they had found the cause of his injury issues. And I think he's been fit since he went to Portugal. He just hasn't started all the time.

One good cameo role is still not going to change my mind and by the looks of it others regarding MJ making it here.

Yes he has bags of talent, but he is inconsistent, made of glass and has never had a run of games without either picking up a knock or getting a long term injury.

He's got as much chance of making here as Hendry.

He really was class when he came on last night but imo his best option is a move away from Celtic preferably abroad to a slower paced league where he can thrive and not the shark tank of English football

I'm afraid Johnson does not have the mentality to play for Celtic. In some respects he reminds me of Turnbull
He is always injured, takes the wrong decisions all the time and is as frustrating as *. Just because he has elected to play for Ireland does not mean one jot. He switched to Ireland because he knew he did not have a hope in * of playing for Scotland. You cannot polish a *. I still remember away fans laughing when Johnson was warming up as a substitute, even they knew he was hopeless, and like a man down.

He'd do well down in the Championship where the pressure isn't on to produce every single week. Could get away with a great game 1 in 5 - not the same at Celtic unfortunately.

Can't agree with you re Turnbull. Different player. Saved our bacon many a time last season with his goals and assists. He was devastated when he got that serious injury last season that stopped him playing for a while. No one better at the club for hitting an accurate long range goal while in play.

It's a very physical league though, he could get mangled...probably better in Portugal....plus Portugal is much nicer than New Cross Gate, south London...Mikey 'Millwall' Johnston

Aye he had a run of about 20 games inder BR or NL can't mind and he was a top performer for us then he got injured and never recovered. Bery unlikely but I hope he can turn it around as he could be a good asset for us

It might seem irrational and even unfair given that we won the game but that miss against the Klan in the 2019 cup final still annoys me.

    Just can't take to him.

Would you rather he didn't try and score when we are 2-1 at St Johnstone?

He is a talented lad who will in all honesty probably he better off away from Celtic having fans whining and groaning every time you touch the ball will either make you rise to the occasion to try and get one up on the wee men doing it or crush your confidence. Unfortunately for Mikey it seems to have been the latter. It's clear to see how much his confidence has grown since he has been in Portugal.

You have to wonder how many more talented young academy lads certain sections of our support will drive out of the club before we can get the benefit of their potential.
