A lovely * Badger, looked a sizable female to me fed on Peanuts on the Verge in my garden 10.20-10.50pm last night. I got superb views. I hear the Badgers at night far more than I see them but I think they are now very comfortable visiting my safe garden, Ruby Roo had only been in the garden minutes before doing her business.
I will put the Nuts out an hour earlier tonight at 9 so hopefully I can get a reasonable photo?? Also a regular in my garden are the local Foxes and I hope to see my first Hedgehog in my garden for a couple of years or so, I am pretty sure i hear them.
Yes very important to know is Badgers love unsalted Peanuts, the same ones we give to the birds, and no other sizable mammal really likes them so you can just concentrate on Badgers if you are luckily enough to have them visit your garden. Hedgehogs of course love Wet Dog food and quality scraps of meat or fish keep the Foxes happy. Autumn being a very good time to feed Hedgehogs.
I will keep you all posted.

Quality man. I know they get spotted a lot around Glasgow but it's still cool when you see them.

A few from the last week, I'm finding it extremely quiet on the birding front these days, my usual haunts which at times are really busy with several different species are very quiet now, i don't know if it's the time of year due to breeding, or maybe migration, Pete and John might have an answer?:50:

Johnie, birds in the Summer usually have done all their breeding and broading of their chicks, so they're not so loud in trying to scare away predators. Also sometimes birds will shed their feathers and look a bit shabby, but since they have less feathers, they are less able to escape predators, so they tend to keep a wee bit quiet.
Occasionally there's also new sources of food available somewhere new, so they will leave their habitat so go nearer to the new food source, leaving their usual habitat.

Thanks for the info John, I was at a smallish loch (Colgagh) in April and within a couple of hours i saw Great crested grebe, Little grebe, Tufted ducks, Moorhen, Egrets, Grey Heron and Cormorant, I've been back there half a dozen times since and each time i see less and less, to the extent i've stopped going to that particular loch, Balisodare is much the same, only a few Mallards and a handful of shell ducks to be seen, maybe i'm expecting too much at this time of year, i'm sure it will get busy again when the winter migrants are back :50:
