If you liked that try Paul McGrath's Back From The Brink. One of the best sports biographies I have ever read.

I enjoyed it mate. I know places like York, Bamburgh and Lindisfarne pretty well so enjoyed putting it in all in context.

I did find it at times pretty hard going, however I think that was possibly because I have had a * week at work and my mind was wandering.

I used to commute into York and when crossing the Ouse especially in the fog at 6:30 am I used to think. Jesus * they must have * themselves when they saw the Vikings coming up the river.

Sorry to hear you had such a * week with work issues. Hopefully next week is much better! Thanks for the info on the book. Due to their history in Ireland as well I have always been fascinated about the Viking period.

    Thank you.

I genuinely can't believe I never mentioned Ireland when I thought of this book. Obviously it is a good proportion of the book. There is a comparison in the book basically comparing Dublin to York and the influence the Vikings had on both.

Interesting chapters on the Norsemen on France, Russia, the Middle east and North America as well.

My gut instinct is you will enjoy this book.

    Good luck.

Aye, loved it ( couple of pages back I put it in here.)

Osman is riding the crest of a wave at the minute but good luck to him. I've always had a strong connection with the older members of my family ( sadly most of them are long gone). He has cleverly captured that.

Thanks. I think your probably right. It is amazing how widespread geographically and prominent the Vikings influence was historically, truly amazing. No doubt Dublin and York became very important cities due to their Viking past.

I liked Boardwalk Empire a lot too really good series. I read Shutter Island too and liked it but think A Drink Before The War is even better. Looking forward to reading more of that series of his.

Always loved the movie Braveheart despite knowing it was very loosely based on reality.

Having almost finished The Wallace by Nigel Tranter | Goodreads I now realise the movie was almost entirely bullshit... but you guys would already know that.

    The book is fantastic.
