We have to compensate by stacking players in certain zones. The planning is what McManus and Ortega could do. Ralston and CCV mark the two biggest threats each team has. Also, we need a way to stop teams from blocking Hart- he must have the ability to run out and claim crosses.

It's how we defend them we get lucky when 2 players look like they know what to do the rest are like headless chickens.

Edit just saw others mention it.

I always prefer a mixture of both, need to mark dangerous areas and man mark. Martin O’Neill’s system was great for that (and obviously the players we had) Bobo and Varga attacking anything in and around the box, the likes of Sutton, Hartson, Petrov, Valgaeren etc marking players

We definitely lack height at the back or at least different options. Jullien the only guy who's a * man mountain.

Having him back will help massively. People forget how dominant he is in the air and focus on one bad game against Lyndon Dykes (who has gone on to rough up better defenders than Jullien) and a game against that big boy for Kilmarnock.

and man marking does this more than Zonal marking so much more goals happen from zonal marking what if our player has 2 guys in his zone can’t mark both can he? But that’s his zone to cover lots of mismatches like this in the zonal system.

My idea is having more than one player covering a particular zone. The exact number per zone would be determined separately for each opposition team.

That’s not how zonal works it’s each player has a zone that’s why man for man works better pick him up and stay with him he yours instead of 3 in your zone

My idea tries to compensate for the lack of height by concentrating players in certain areas. Ange obviously prefers speed and stamina over aerial presence, so, this mixed approach is the best we can do.

It wasn’t big guys he struggled against, it was big guys who were quicker than him. Who could also turn, and go shoulder to shoulder.

Niang and the boy from Hamilton done it as well, wee strong quick guys he was fine with weirdly. Or just big strong guys. Was like that specific type was his kryptonite :56:

Never seemed to have a problem with them at home or any other striker or similar abilities in Europe.

Fed up with this narrative that he can't handle guys like Dykes. It's nonsense, he's bossed Dykes at parkhead.

Hamilton, Kilmarnock and Livingston.... Julliens issue is he's 6'5" and simply can't cope playing on * astro pitches

I agree the problem is the refs …. They let those guys away with murder basically assault the centre backs and get away with it

    This.

The hypocrisy around target-men and centre-backs is * unreal at times. If we have a target man, the minute he fails to hold up a single ball he's labelled as *. When our defenders come up against completely one-dimensional target men if they don't cleanly clear every single ball they're labelled as * that can't handle target-men.

It's a media narrative to wind up Celtic supporters. It makes no * sense. That might actually be too generous, it's probably just Kris Boyd levels of incompetence from pundits that are too stupid to actually coach in the game (looking at you, Walker).

Either the defender is favourite and our target men deserve a break, or the striker is favourite and our defenders deserve credit for winning 8/10 balls and sweeping up the second ball the other 2 times.

You're bang on about Dykes in particular. Completely anonymous when Julien was playing on a football pitch and not slip-sliding on that primary-school astro-pitch that Livingston use.
