I'm just booked in through an agency mate. Class 1 work...... there's loads of shift work going and weekend work going around, I stick to days/early during the week, and usually get a couple of shifts. A lot of places are taking on P/T drivers too these days due to the shortage.

Personally I wouldn't touch the parcel gig's, but that's just my view. Get in touch with the agencies, there is some work out there for ordinary licence holders.... also, and this is an age thing, you can drive up to 7.5t with an ordinary licence, which gives you more of an option, as I said dependant on your age.

Houses in Ardoyne where going for 10-20 grand. 15% rate mortgages still wouldn't be thst much when you calculate it. My ma and da bought our family home for 14grand in 1993. Heard of other houses needing work getting sold for 7-10k and one of my das mates bought 2 shells for 5k each, done them up and sold for profit and moved here to Mayo and built a house with the money.

As for 15% interest, I'll have to ask my da how much his interest was. I don't think it was as high as 15% though. I do know it was high compared to now. That I'm not disputing! Here in the west of Ireland I've heard talk it was even higher than 15% in the 90s although that's a different country all together in banking terms.

I got a mortgage with Northern Bank as they were the only ones who would take me for my age. Moved mortgage about 4 years later and managed to take a 12,000 loan and still pay the mortgage I was with Northern.

    Well over 15k and a 140k mortgage.

Got a consolidation loan to wipe out the 15k across credit cards, overdrafts and a previous loan.

Still 15-16k in debt obviously but the monthly payment is very affordable in comparison to what I earn, plus I was literally throwing money away paying £60 a month in overdraft fees, £140 a month in minimum payment charges for credit cards that I could never pay off.

Nothing. 9 years ago I made the decision at age 38 to get out of the Rat Race. Sold up the house in Scotland and bought a little "doer-upper" in France (which is still being done up.......!!) with the equity. No mortgage since then, and a very simple life. My car is 15 years old, my house is "basic" and I don't earn anything like I used to, but life is happier now and I try and enjoy each day.

The only downside was when my dad died and I was 1000 miles away, but if anything it reinforces the idea that I need to enjoy however long I have left in this world.....

Looking for some advice regarding mortgages if there is anyone clued up here.

My term with Santander is up on the 2nd of June this year...I have the money to pay it off and that's my intention.

However, I don't bank with Santander ..I bank with Bank of Scotland.

Can anyone tell me what the process is and when I should put the wheels in motion without incurring any penalty charges ?

    Cheers

Aww 2016. Good Times. How time flies. Remeber when your months pay never vanished on bill day? I miss you :(

Took a 40 year mortgage and currently overpaying to the tune of a making it a 15 year mortgage. Felt it was more flexible and can withstand being unemployed for alot longer if anything was to happen using that.

Now I understand why I always got told to turn the lights off.... :56:

We don’t have council tax here. We pay heavy rates which covers our roads, water etc. I’m a bit behind on that but over the last few years they have been decent about it.

Hi. I was an Independent Mortgage adviser until recently. Do you have any redemption penalties as a result of a fixed rate? If not, you could pay it off at any time from now. If so, just wait until you've reverted back to variable rate, then contact them (Santander) and they will advise you the best way to do it. Bank transfer is probably one way.

Yes I'm on a fixed rate so would incur a penalty charge paying it off early.

I was wondering if I should maybe get the ball rolling around April time just to let them know my intentions!
