I think people private messaged you about this a couple of pages back with advice.

I would say is don't ignore it and try and strike a repayment deal with the tax credits mob. You wont win by ignoring them and you don't want it passed onto a debt agency, they're heartless *

Yeah a few people offered advice. Basically what was suggested would happen has happened. Been kinda expecting it tbh, but it's still a pain in the *.

One year I got a check from the State of Maryland for 36 dollars as a rebate

Two months later they wrote me a letter saying I owed them 400 bucks

I have enough debt but fortunately my mortgage is finished in 18 months. So should be able to whack away at the debt after.

It’s great to hear people finishing their mortgage. Such a milestone and great knowing you own your home.

Aye we bought our house when I was 23 and had a 25 year mortgage. Good to get it cleared before I’m 50. Planning to get back to games and holidays in future. If * spares us. :50:

I only have a parking ticket £30 i am not paying it its up to £90, i told the council i am not paying it.
If a debt collection agency want the money i will tell them i am below the poverty line ( which legally i am ) and i can not afford to pay it,, being a pensioner can be fukin great some times .

Looking forward to it. Especially having to struggle over the last 5 years with mental health and physically and psychologically couldn’t work. Now maybe starting a new job on 21st February. Passed two interviews so far and the last guy made it sound like a formality in an assessment.

Excellent mate, I’m doing the same thing. I’ll need to move one more time but determined not to extend the mortgage so I can hit the magic 50 target.

We have been in the same home and I’d hate to leave but if needs must, so be it. I know a few friends who went on the housing wheel. Buying and selling for profit to bring down the mortgage on the next buy. My wife’s aunt done this for years and made good money from it. She is living in a council bungalow now with a healthy bank account I’d imagine.

Aye, but back then houses cost £100 and you could get 100% mortgage on a dinner lady's part time salary.

We were very fortunate. We have a 3 story, 4 bedroom Victorian town house and it didn’t cost a fortune as it was reclaimed by the bank. We did have to take out a significant loan to update everything and make it liveable but still well in our favour. The troubles had just ended but everything was on a shaky peg and kept house prices well down but now it’s hard to get a house at a decent price in Belfast.
