Books you've read or are reading

That is true its about 800 pages in my paperback version.

 

I know I posted a couple of year ago in here when I picked it up but never got round to it.

Only really got into reading a few year ago but weirdly haven’t been able to read during this pandemic even though most of it has been spent doing fuckall.

Think the movie covers the first half of the first book. Or that’s what it was supposed to be to begin with.

 

No even look to see what’s in mine but it’s a lot smaller than IT and I got through that in a few weeks before I watched the film. * hated Stephen King’s style of writing as well…

Goodreads has Dune as a third of IT so I should be fine if I go for it

 

Took a recent trip down memory lane reading the Celtic book Treble Treble:

 

Finished Ken Bruen's Priest. Another brilliant entry in the Galway authors Jack Taylor crime series. At times witty, at times funny and at times noir but always a real page turner. Loved it.

 

'The Young Team' by Graeme Armstrong.

Finished it in about two days, absolutely brilliant.

 

Finished Tana French's crime drama The Secret Place. Really enjoyed this one and a bit different as while it is a who done it murder mystery with all the action taking place over the course of one day it is also a coming of age story too.

 

This has been on my list for a while but glad I got around to it. Bit of a tragic story but was a good read nonetheless.

The negatives were with the author casually sliding in some of his own experiences in to pad the book out a bit which wouldve been fine had it not been that the experiences were so dissimilar to each other. One was someone giving up his belongings, savings and life in search of adventure and solitude. The other is a journo-mountaineer...

Finished Ken Bruen's The Cross. Another brilliant and enjoyable Irish noir crime drama from Bruen. I just love the dialogue very noir and dark at times hilarious and witty at others.

 

Finished Jack Whyte's The Burning Stone a prequel to his Arturian series. I have always been a big historical fiction fan and was looking forward to my first book with this author. The story is set in the early 4th century in Roman Britain and overall I liked it although the middle part of the book went on a bit.

 

Just saw today that one of my favourite authors Anne Rice died over the weekend at the age of 80. She comes actually from a strong Irish-American background with her maiden name being O'Brien. RIP to a truly gifted writer.

 

Currently reading The Green Mile, set myself a challenge of reading all of Stephen King's books during lockdown... About halfway through just now.

Also a book on Stalingrad by Anthony Brevet and The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell on the Kindle.

 

I cant read, well i can but 3 or 4 pages in and i drift off. Happens no matter what book i read. My wife on the other hand has read 79 books so far this year and will be 80/81 by hogmanay.

You ever tried audio books?

I use them while cutting the grass, walking to the shops & stuff.

 

Audiobooks are really good. I use them all the time (well, don't have much choice, lol) and there are great services like Audible, but even aside from that there are loads on youtube etc as well.

 

Do you still sound every word in your head when you read? You should persevere and your reading will become better, you can set small goals like read a chapter a day, start with easy books like fantasy or certain non-fiction books like true crime.

I just read this, picked it up at airport coming back from Glasgow in 2019...

 

Halfway through this, given last Christmas believe it or not. Just got around to it lately, ironically after spendings too much time in the covid threads, I picked it up lol. Really good book, some hard lessons to be learned from it however opened minded you think you are

 

Was close to buying this from Audible last week but opted for something else. His first book had better reviews but I will end up getting both at some point, probably the print versions.

Guy is different class on LBC, should be mandatory listening for some of ignorant fuckwits on here

 

Finished Erik Durschmeid's The Weather Factor. A history book about various major battles at different points where the weather played an outsized and or decisive part in determining the outcome. Was actually not as good as I had hoped for.

 

Getting into Zen. This is an easy read and not too 'the sound of one hand clapping while a tree falls in the woods' stuff lol
