He's slotted into the inverted full back position flawlessly over his last two appearances.

Yes, of course, he made two glaring mistakes last night, but he's shown far more positives than he has negatives.

I'd have him starting every game, certainly ahead of Taylor and Montgomery.

We aren't linked with any left back. He's completely overtaken monty and I think he will do similar to Taylor by the spring

I don't think we need a new left back for him to not make the bench.
Montgomery has had to play LW in the 2 starts Scales has had so makes it hard to know what way Ange would've gone for the position.
Scales has been so far down the pecking order that Bolingoli got games earlier in the season.
I honestly think he's playing now because of how stretched the squad is and I expect him to make no impact long term.

oxymoron? how was he flawless when he made 2 x massive errors - one which nearly cost 2 points - i think starting him would put him in the deep end - if he is up against boyle who is on form could ruin scales. i would go for experience at left back - get past this game and we will bring in a new upgraded left back in the new year. what about taylor and juranovic in front of him - they can double up when defending boyle? tough all for ange

Taylor was on the bench the other night and Ange went with scales. I expect Taylor to start at the weekend but scales will get plenty opportunity's under Ange and I have been impressed that he has made the impact he has so quickly. He can tidy up the defending, my biggest concern was his comfort on the ball from LOI to spl and he's passed that so far with flying colours. The glimpses we have seen I haven't seen a left back since Tierney as comfortable in possession. (Laxalt, boli, Taylor, monty)

For me he defo seems far better going forward than defending.

The thing that stands out for him is he looks happy to get forward and attack the box when he takes up central positions looking to get a shot off. You don't get that with Taylor or Boli. Could be useful for breaking down low block teams.

Still need to see more of him defensively though. Won't judge him on the lapses against Ross County.

Do you think he gets a lot of people standing on him trying to weigh themselves?

Thought he was pretty solid when he came on won a few headers, Woudnt mind seeing him playing centre half instead of starfelt. Also something beautiful about seeing him draped in the tricolour celebrating after the game.

His composure is really excellent. Think he laid off an awkward long ball to a teammate with a wee cushioned side foot volley as one of his first actions.

Remains to be seen how stong he is defensively but his technique and reeding of the game are very solid.

Was some pass that, considering they'd just launched it long in the dying minutes trying to break for an equaliser. His composure definitely seems to be his biggest strength so far. I'd also like to see him given a go at CB at some point since he's our only naturally left sided centre back, neither Welsh or Starfelt are (understandably) comfortable there.

I know it's early days but his composure on the ball reminds me a bit like VVD. We might have unearthed another gem there

If the next Van Dijk is from Wicklow I don't know what I'll do :giggle1: I think our best defender to date is Paul McShane :fear:

Can see how he went from a CB to a LWB.

Utterly brainless footballer who constantly runs into teammates space. The fact we brought on Taylor in that game sums him up.
