It was mainly because he played like a timid wee boy last year who shirked out of challenges and made stupid mistakes constantly. He would also have the habit of going missing in important games.

Lennon almost destroyed him, as well as Rogic and a few others. I still wouldn't say he's a natural leader but he's definitely grown into the role and is becoming one with each passing game.

 

I think that’s harsh on last season but even so, he’s been a leader on the team for years before that. It’s never really on camera but in the stadium you can see him pulling the team to one side during stoppages to organise them and make them concentrate. Been going on for years.

Really appearances are everything in football and he’s not a tackler, has a baby face and hasn’t shaved his head so he not our stereotype of a ‘leader’.

Thankfully now that the spotlight is on him people are seeing past that *.

 

The amount of backtracking about him recently from * who don’t have a clue about football is * hilarious.

 

Guy has taken it up another level this year in all aspects of his game.

Best midfielder in the land by a distance.

 

Needs to start badgering referees about the lack of protection being afforded to our players.

 

Leading by example with his commitment and work rate off the ball as well as his quality on the ball. Superb again today.

 

That's pretty much it. Too many have a very limited idea of what a leader is.

Weird one that, latter half I’d agree but first half of the season 2021 nah. Take it his goal in the Euros was a big part of it.

 

I do agree with you on the first half of this year (i.e. the latter part of last season). However, the way he’s stepped up into the captaincy, his performances in midfield this season, and his form for Scotland - which has been top quality for quite some time (even if we were to discount the goal in the Euros) - all add up to him richly deserving it, imo.

 

Just in case anyone missed it, he put the ball on a plate for both Scales and Rogic, who then obliged with assists for Abada and Ralston respectively. Unsung hero again last night. He’s magic.

 

Hopefully first of many as Captain tomorrow..

He needs one of these..
