The delivery is only as good as the finish. I can think of at least 4 free headers that have failed to be on target or have been saved. Welsh, CCV and Bitton have all missed at times. Think Welsh got one early and Ralston has got a couple. By and large corners don’t usually produce( think the stats are approximately something like 1 in 100) and we take a lot of ours short.

So putting down Turnbull’s set pieces, yeah he’s not the lad from Leverkusen, but if he was, chances are he’d be playing elsewhere or looking to leave.

He’s got 8 goals and 6 assists, playing minutes that are way beyond any other player. His sharpness would take a hit, anyone’s would with his workload. All that with a team that’s underperforming on converting major chances.

I said at the start of the season that Turnbull would get 15+ goals and 15+ assists playing under Ange and he’s on track to do so. People on here would have snapped my hand off if that was the offer preseason.

On the topic of the Leverkusen game, Turnbull also had a great game. It’s not that I don’t rate Bitton, it’s just that I see him as the 4th best midfielder and when the 3 others are fit, they pick themselves in every game in the SPL except maybe against Rangers.

Speaking of which, I say maybe Rangers because we don’t really know. Christie(was honking) played in place of Rogic and Eddy played up top(instead of Kyogo) and crowded the midfield and we were a different team back then.

So far, the midfield trio of Rogic, Turnbull and CalMac haven’t dropped a point since Rogic came on as a sub at Aberdeen away, while playing together. In those 7 games they’ve conceded just 1 goal while being on the pitch together. In fact they have a record of winning 7 from 7 and a 14-1 for and against.

To change that midfield is crazy.

I agree. We had 12 corners yesterday and 13 mid week and just never looked like scoring, I know there are other factors, like starting positions/movement/nobody to get that initial flick on, etc but he puts way too much height on his deliveries from corners. Reckon we need a dedicated set piece coach.

Wish we would get a set piece specialist in. Slippy is making a career out of his

Didn’t Kyogo nod over from 6 yards?

Great game to watch, great tempo given a few injuries.

Great to get an early goal and set the tone

vickers is 8/10 every week - reads the game well, strong, keeps it simple - one of the best defenders i have seen at the club i would take him over ajer anyday.

i think abada is better coming from the bench to make impact in games

Mikey J - good first half, does some good things, lacks upper body strength, needs to be more direct and clinical, hopefully ange can make him a more rounded team player.

mc gregor was running everything becoming a proper leader - if he cuts out some silly tackles he is an complete as he can be great to watch , keeps us ticking.

i would be happy not to throw jota into the hibs final and keep him fresh for christmas games etc, we have enough without him to beat hibs, not start the game anway.

    Where is this greek striker?
    Where is jullien?
Good to see wee dembele back on the training pitch
Fantastic for scales would like to see more of him maybe in the betis game, i was told his best position is left centre half. him and a few others can start shape away some rust, start ajeti, bain, scales, soro or mc carthy etc

Keep the head down one game at a time hopefully hearts nick points of sunday and we do our thing.

fans never stopped yesterday, fantastic keep it going, bring in recruits and give this title a good rattle.

henke l christmas dvd for him, one he learns to head he will be a complete striker, he deserved a goal for his efforts, he defends everyball, chases it down right into injury time - love his ethic and team spirit - infectious player

I'm going to keep this short and sweet, you can stick to writing Harry Potter novels if you wish

Putting Bitton into that MF whilst taking Turnbull out of it, yes, whilst it's true Turnbull does score more goals than Bitton, the overall balance of the team would be far better by having a natural DM like Bitton in the 6 role instead, having Bitton in that position would generate the team more goals overall because the team middle to front would be even more confident when attacking knowing someone like Bitton was shielding the defence behind them, it would allow CalMac, Rogic, Kyogo and the two wingers to play more freely, taking more risks, which would translate to more goals. Turnbull should not be in that MF ahead of him, you won't change my mind.

Fair enough that I won’t change your mind but while I might be writing Harry Potter length novels, you are writing Harry Potter fantasy novels.

It ain't fantasy to suggest Bitton, CalMac and Rogic is a far more balanced MF over CalMac, Turnbull and Rogic

I just read what you wrote in CalMac’s thread, you are right, I won’t be changing your mind, but your opinions apart from Rogic having magic toes, are crazy about our midfield.

I think Turnbull is obsessed with his personal stats and it’s hampering his ability to fulfill his potential. I don’t think it’s ridiculous to suggest Bitton should start ahead of him at the minute but you can’t argue with the current run of results that midfield of Cal Rogic and Turnbull is currently on.

Just further on that butcher, Butcher. Have just watched the weekend highlights of the A League. In the Brisbane- Adelaide game there’s a straight red to an Adelaide player that has a similar tackle, however not as bad. Comes from the rear side, takes out the legs, no ball but studs weren’t up.
And we bemoan the quality of a lot of our refs and at SPFL season start when you kind fold were banging on about your * refs, I was thinking don’t be daft.
After watching every Celtic match this season all I can say is either they’re on the take or just not up to the level required. Either way, both damning criticisms.

    Interesting take from afar...

What evidence do you cite for this?

Arsenal had one player hacked very late (and clearly deliberately) on the shin this morning, and had another player get his face stamped on.

Not even a yellow in either case, but if it had been at Emirates instead of Everton... Everton finish the game with nine men.

So the EPL has no moral high ground when it comes to officiating.

That's no comment on Butcher of course. * deserved sent off and ten weeks.

They're not, I judge our players in Europe and Sevco fixtures the most, maybe you don't and consistent performances against Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts, Motherwell etc are satisfying enough for you, that's fair enough, we all have our own yard sticks on what makes a Celtic player

Oh good, since you rely on Europe results so much, Rogic, Turnbull and CalMac as our midfield have played 4, won 3, lost 1, aggregate was 7-5. The one loss was the 4-0 pumping we copped when CalMac was rushed back from injury.

Bitton played 3, lost 2 and drew one(where he got sent off in the first half).

Clearly I'm talking about Bitton starting the game in MF, you decided to include a game where he started CB, shows how flawed your argument is

Your math is also wrong because Bitton has started 4 European games this season, two in MF, two at CB, won 2, drew 1, lost 1 (in which we were winning the game away to Leverkusen until he got injured)

The 4-0 defeat to Leverkusen (where Turnbull was the catalyst for that defeat with his error for the opening goal) was nowhere near as convincing as the result that nearly took place away to Leverkusen where we were winning the game until Bitton went off such was the MF impact he was having. On an individual performance basis, Bitton in MF has been more impressive than Turnbull in MF in regards to overall performance, Bitton doesn't look out of place at that level, Turnbull does.
