another wasted night where he does next to nothing, he cant beat men like Rogic and his passing was abysmal and if kyogo had still been on then that chance might fall to him and it coulda been 3-3.

such a disappointment after last season. either get your * together or we need to find someone who can replace Rogic when needed.

He's miles off it at this level, no problem with him being in the squad but we should be looking for a much better first choice.

If he was any good we’d have scored another 2 tonight and that’s me not including his chance at the end

Ange is starting him every week because there is literally no other midfielder to start. We have a huge depth issue in midfield. Need at least 2 quality signings there.

No problems with domestic duty although he has looked a bit jaded recently. Was an empty jersey tonight.

He was poor, he definitely has something but more competition for a place will majorly benefit him.

Agree on there being a lack of depth, disagree on Ange having no other option but to start Turnbull in the absence of Rogic, would have tried....

    Bitton CalMac
    Forrest Johnston Jota
    Kyogo

    or

    Bitton Soro
    Forrest CalMac Jota
    Kyogo

Before having Turnbull in MF, there were other ways of setting up the MF without having Turnbull starting

He's got the ability but he is inconsistent, can be great one game and posted missing the next.

Poor effort again last night but no other option.
Hopefully, when Tam back, Ange will run with Bitton Tam and Cal.

Johnston showed when he came on last night he wasn’t up to it. Had Abada in the middle unmarked and ran the ball out, didn’t even try a pass.

CalMac is unreal but never a 10. And * Soro, he’s not up to that SPL standard let alone playing against Bayer Leverkusen.

Ange really doesn’t have any other choice.

Aye, if Turnbull’s decision-making is suspect, Johnston’s is downright murder.

Suggesting Soro plays against Leverkusen is ridiculous. Hasn’t the composure not to get sent off versus bottom-6 hatchet men.

He's too unathletic, immobile and one footed to be of any use in the final third, he takes a age to get it out his feet, doesn't have skill or strength to hold off players either.

Actually forgot he was playing at one point up until he popped up with a tame effort in the dying minutes.

    Once Rogic’s back, drop him.

Its got to be remembered, he's only actually played one full season in his career so far.

Last year he was not played for the first 4 months and then randomly dropped in the second half at times.
Think almost everyone gets a clean slate after last year.

However that said, he's just not up to it at present.

Much like Abada, both are very young in their careers (Welsh as well) even though they are in their 20s now.
They are the absolute definition of players who need to be coached and managed in to a side. They aren't ready yet to be playing 60games at the level we require. They need to be spared from the criticism that comes with football at times, dropped and replaced and brought back in to games at a good time. Build on their abilities confidence and coach them where they need coached.

It's been said already in this thread, but we are massively short in the middle.

Our best trip is calmac, Turnbull and Tam. That's not great.
We need someone who's much more experienced and consistent to replace Turnbull in that trio.
We then need to decide which kind of midfielder Turnbull is meant to be for us, as a pair in the middle, or the support to the striker as a number 10. Whatever it is, he then needs coached and developed in that position.

But til then, we need to get a stronger midfield 3 and have reasonable depth as well.
McCarthy isn't it, so I'm confident I saying we need another 2 midfielders so that we can actually rotate folk and make changes that aren't going to weaken us.

    For who though?
Arguably Bitton, who's been doing reasonably well in this run, but for me he's also not the answer to improve our midfield and have use playing with the tempo and aggression we want.

Defo needs dropped though, as I say above, he needs time out the side for his own good and development.

The sheer number of games Turnbull is having to play is evidence of the severe lack of depth we have in central midfield. It's a good thing Bitton is performing well at the moment, because Ange clearly doesn't trust Soro and McCarthy is just miles off it. Hopefully we sign that Japanese fella who plays central midfield and also left back early in January.

He has class and remains an exciting prospect, adding consistency to his game is key for any young player.

However, the tendency to go missing in big games can't be ignored.

For me he doesn't have the agility or athleticism to play cm the way we play. Ye he will he fine in handy domestic home games as he can essentially sit as a de facto 10 but at other times he's severely lacking. If we are to go to another level with Ange I think we need a true mobile box to box in that 8.
