He just taken over as chairman and non-executive director of rugby’s Champions League and Europa League equivalent.

That obviously demonstrates his pedigree and strategic acumen to be getting a role like that weeks after leaving us. Even if he didn’t have a background in football, the whole point was that we were due to get a DOF to overlook the footballing side of operations. McKay’s role was always meant to overlook the commercial and strategic side of the club.

On the other hand, and by no means saying this is right or wrong, but simply playing Devil's Advocate here, perhaps considering where McKay came from and where he has returned to (Rugby), perhaps the taste of the football world, dealing with agents, other clubs, players, not to mention any friction there may've been with the Board etc for the 10-11 weeks or something (after the couple of months of 'shadowing Lawwell) was enough for McKay to decide that the job wasn't for him and to return to the relative comfort and safety of the more 'gentlemanly' realm of Rugby administration? It would certainly suggest the level of respect that he is obviously held in, in rigby circles to be invited into such a prominant role there.

Again, not saying this is how it is, and you are right that we do have to consider the nature of our Board and it's track record of previous dealings etc, but just perhaps looking at it from a different perspective, and as I said, play a little Devil's Advocate.

Fair argument and unfortunately we won't ever know for sure

But, just personally, for me if that was the case, I don't think the word choice and way we went about it would have been done in the way it was.

"Very much a team player" (or whatever it was) was a very telling line to use.

Totally appreciate you're just giving other perspectives of course.

    Is that possible? Aye.

Is it probable though? Probably not.

It involves being very charitable to a board that deserves none from us. Would he have left the cooshty number he had to come to Celtic without doing his due dilligence? I doubt it.

The fact that he was made to shadow the outgoing CEO for a 3 month period - one that was basically inferred as a failure at worst and incompetent at best in subsequent briefs about the urgent need for modernisation - shows that this board weren't looking for a revolutionary character with his own ideas.

The press release upon his exit left more questions than answers and in those circumstances fans that are tired of how this board operates are going to fill in the blanks. The move to appoint Nicholson as an interim CEO returns the board to a familiar face that they know won't rock the boat; the perfect man for a power-hungry majority shareholder and a sycophantic and clueless Chairman.

Well at least McKay has got a new job and we know it's not for personal reasons now he left the club .
We are still waiting for a permanent CEO at the club and still no head of recruitment yet and the board need to get their * in gear and start filling posts at the club as it's not acceptable for the size of our club and just * amateurs running our club .

In that amount of time it's pretty easy to spot someone who's out of their depth in almost any professional environment, to be fair.

"Shadowing the former CEO" that kind of sums up the arrogance of Lawwell too imo. Anyone coming in to a job doesn't 'Shadow' anyone, they come in take the reigns and put their own stamp on it. This is what I do so you need to do that too, naw I'll come in you'll * off and I'll do what needs to be done. Funny enough we are still hearing his name even though he retired 6 months ago. He still holds way to much power and sway within our club, and I think that's why the personal reasons are Lawwell.

Shadowing someone to gain an insight into how a job is done is incredibly common.

:giggle1: Same. I meant to add that it's usually far shorter than the time McKay had.

You couldn’t be more wrong in the first half of your post. A shadowing / handover period is considered the ‘gold standard’.

For what its worth, from what I've heard Taz's scenario isn't as unbelievable as some may think or hope for. Football and Rugby are 2 different beasts to work in, excessive amounts of money has that affect. Then there was also the additional attention his every move came under, Christ we even had folk criticising his choice of suit colour at one point.

I'd understand that if it was a 18-25 year old wet behind the ears uni grad, but getting someone with as much experience as DM to follow you about like a lapdog for 4 months is a tad egotistical. There's learning the ropes and learning how to be someone else.

The lack of transparency is the thing here, we are still guessing to an extent and that's unacceptable..

My already low thoughts on plc/big business just took a huge dump.
