A group of volunteer sleuths made up of former investigative specialists claim to have identified the Zodiac Killer, one of the most notorious serial killers in the world, who terrorised San Francisco in the late 1960s.

The team, known as the Case Breakers, consisting of more than 40 former law enforcement officers, private investigators, federal agents, and forensic experts, also claims that a 1966 murder in Southern California was also the work of Zodiac.

Zodiac taunted authorities with coded messages, or ciphers, sent to newspapers, and his identity has never been revealed, but several potential suspects have been investigated over the years.

The Case Breakers allege that Gary Francis Poste, who passed away in 2018, was the Zodiac Killer, pointing to clues they uncovered over several years.

These variously include photos found in his darkroom, a pattern of scars or wrinkles on his forehead that match a police sketch of the Zodiac, and forensic evidence including DNA.

A further claim is that if you remove the letters of Mr Poste’s full name from one of the ciphers, it reveals an alternate message.

The group is also convinced that Mr Poste is responsible for the unsolved murder of Cheri Jo Bates in Riverside, California, on 31 October 1966 – two years before the first killing was linked to Zodiac in the Bay Area hundreds of miles to the north.

It's insane how often this happens. Chrsitie, Sutcliffe, West, Dahlmer are jsut the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Studios all over Hollywood will probably be rushing to make films/series about it now but none will compare to Fincher’s Zodiac.

Am pretty sure the police picked up a distraught Asian man who was drunk, who tried to tell them about Dahlmer after found body parts in a freezer, but they didn't believe him and the police literally took the guy to Dahlmer's home and left him with him, because Dahlmer 'appeared to be sober' at the time. Guess who his next victim was?

    I've just read that..

Chilling to the bone. He'd got out whikst the * was buying booze and naked, battered flagged down the lassies. Then the wrongun approached them making out he was his pal and just drunk. The lassie phoned the polis who then took him back to Dahmers house.....only to be butchered within hour's..

Ironically he was murdered in the jail with weights..

That’s him and the Golden state killer identified in the space of a couple of years.Zodiac has to have been the most complex case to solve with probably the most man hours put into any case from the police/journalists/tv programs and hacks.

I loved that film. There was a bit that chilled me to the bone and must be up there with the most tense I've felt watching a film. The song at the end credits Hurdy Gurdy man kicks in so well too.

So did the film sort of point at the right guy in the film?

Probably is. How many people claim to have solved one of these cases based on a piece of debatable evidence, in order to write a book or sell to a producer or whatever ?

The guy that claimed his dad was the black dahlia killer had a photo of someone he claimed looked like Elizabeth Short and started reeling off stories based off that to back himself up, probably making a few bob in the process.

Nah. They were basically saying it was confirmed as that Arthur Leigh Allen in the film.

I’ve listened to dozens of podcasts, watched countless documentaries and read about every article going on the Zodiac and never seen this * mentioned :giggle1:
