Aye he’s a guy that will get defenders backing up when he has the ball because they’re unsure what he’s going to do. Love that.

We’ll see the best of him when Kyogo’s back fit as well I think.

Everything he was touted as being. A bit more composure in front of goal and he'll be absolutely deadly.

For those who are in love.....
Sometimes you can just sense it..

With the way we go forward and him being touted as the next big thing out of Portugal a couple of year ago...it seemed a match made in heaven..

He's the kinda player we all love. Gets you excited as you know he's gonna produce moments of magic..

Some player on our hands once he's up to speed, settled and gelled in Ange's system..

I thought he looked really good in parts last night. He looks skillful and entertaining.

    Tracking back wasn't so good.

    This.

If that wasn’t a new player they’d be getting called a disgrace etc. Could just imagine the reaction if Johnston put in effort like that last night :giggle1:

All you need to do is remember the reaction to Forrest when he’d had a good attacking game in Europe pre-Rodgers.

Or read the people that can’t let go of their opinion of him from back then now.

His job within this system isn’t to track back or make tackles, I have no issues with either.

My reservations about him still circle around his physique, his mentality, his end product. He may very well blow all those out the water but those are the genuine concerns - not that your attacking winger isn’t helping the full back defend.

Such a clever wee fitba player, but as you say if he overcomes these issues he could be really really good.

Once Ange has his defensive duties sorted, he’s gonna be a big money transfer.

    * waiting out this loan season, I’d punt the £7 million right now.

You’d thrown ? 7 million at it right now? They guy has looked very good, no question. But so did Laxalt in his first lock of games….

Let’s just see how he fares.

Ive also been reading Benfica fan reactions to the game. They’re absolutely fuming that they let him go to us and will (probably) lose him to us.

    Always a good sign.

let’s hope he turns into the player he can be.

Surely somebody needs to think of a song to a George Michael choon for him. Doesn’t deserve one yet but too got an opportunity

Can understand why his loan spell last seadon never worked out , hes the type of player that needs to be in an attacking team on the front foot , if its s team pushed back then thats not his game.

I totally agree with this and think this is exactly why Roberts career has fizzled out post us. Offers very little defensively and is lightweight but on the ball and in attacking sense can be unplayable at times and win you a game.

Most of the teams Roberts went to post Celtic were all mid table or lower at best and many of them often played a pragmatic style which wouldn’t have suited him.

Jota seems similar, in that to get the best out of him your teams system has to allow that he isn’t going to contribute much defensively.
