Pretty much the opposite of my other thread, biggest example I can think of is Gareth Bale with Spain.

On a lesser level, Riquelme with Villareal, not because of his ability but because of guys like Marcos Senna being there at points and being a major part of him being able to elevate them up a level like he did.

I'm not getting the Gareth Bale - Spain connection. You mean Wales? Or have I missed something :giggle1:

I'd say Henrik with us tbh. In 2003 he scored against every single team we played en route to Saville. The only exception being Stuttgart as he didn't play either leg.

Maradona with Argentina in 86. Pretty much won the World Cup by himself.

For us in recent times I'd say Forster, Kyogo looks a player who will have the same impact.

Other teams would be Mcgregor for the huns, Payet for West Ham, Haaland for Dortmund etc.

Thats a great shout and so true. The most incredible performance I have ever seen from an individual player at a World Cup Finals. His goals against Belgium and the whinging English when he dribbled pretty much their whole team were unreal.

He was by far the star man, but not by himself, that was a great team performance to get the best out of him. He didn’t need to score in the final, the balance of that team attacking and defensively was perfect to get the best out of how special a player he was.

When he was in charge of Argentina he believed the one guy can do everything and tried to make Messi do everything, he didn’t understand it wasn’t just him that done it and made Messi try and do it on his own. He did 100% elevate them, but the tactics and players around him were perfect to let him do that.

It probably should be Neymar considering what the * done to us but by far the scariest player I’ve ever seen against us, he was half fit, couldn’t run, just strolled about the pitch being unmarkeable and putting Sonny Anderson through on goal again and again.

Ended up with Lennon and Petrov trying to man mark him and it was useless. Mental.

How the * Barca had him and decided he was a winger is one of the most baffling decisions I’ve seen in football.

They had some other really class players,
He would lift any team though, even a team of world class players.
