Totally agree. I think too many people are thinking that some of the new signings will be better than what we already have but we still honestly don't know yet. Ralston and Welsh wouldn't be too happy being dropped after their recent performances and I wouldn't blame them. We were all over the moon when big Duffy signed and look how that turned out so, hopefully big Ange will be able to gauge how good the new arrivals are in training etc. however, on that note, how he still persists in Taylor I will never know unless he is world class up at Lennoxtown.

    next games

give ralston a wee break we play between 60 and 70 games a season so can squad rotate with juranovic and maybe even fill in at center back at times

    juranovic starfelt vickers liam scales
    mcgregor turnbull
    abada rogic jota
    kyogo
    or
    turnbull mcarthy mcgregor
    abada kyogo jota

feels like were still very short of required standard

could have done with that boy mcann and another left wide man

how much have we really spent it doesnt seem like a lot it seems weve been tight with the money even though its there

McGregor should replace Christie's role in the team instead of wasting him at DM and play McCarthy there, Bitton might also have something to offer though I have concerns over his lack of mobility.

A few unknowns with the new signings but I would go with:

    Hart

    Ralston
    CCV
    Welsh
    Juranovic

    McGregor
McCarthy(when fit. Rogic for the time being).
    Turnbull

    Forrest
    Kyogo
    Jota

I think it would be seriously harsh to drop Ralston. He has been our best player IMO so I would put Juranovic at left back for the time being. Taylor has been ok but not deserving to be a starter. Kyogo has to play through the middle. He is a star in the making and could be a cult hero. McCarthy will be massive when fit. Loads of PL and international experience. Sitting in front of the back 4 will suit him and us. I havent seen enough from Starfelt to convince me we havent be caught there. I would put Carter Vickers in ahead of him. He looked good at Bournemouth last year. Welsh has done quite well and deserves his spot. Forrest over Abada but plenty enough games for rotation. Jota from what I hear will be a good signing. Let's hope so. Turnbull and McGregor are classy players. An in form Rogic is one of the best at the club. Hart makes mistakes but can win you a game. All in all we look very good I think. If Jota and McCarthy do the business we will take some stopping.

Too hard to tell at the minute, and also the 'best' starting 11 will depend on the game e.g. it's fine playing McGregor as a 6 at home to Dundee, but it's not exactly ideal against the huns. And we have yet to see some of our new signings. Having said all that, I'd go with something like the below (assuming the new guys make the step up):

Games where we're expected to be on the front foot:

    Hart
    Juranovic CCV Jullien Scales
    McGregor
    Turnbull Rogic
    Abada Kyogo Jota
    Tighter games:

    Hart
    Juranovic CCV Jullien Scales
    McCarthy McGregor
    Turnbull
    Forrest GG Kyogo
Slightly concerned about the lack of pace in the midfield though. Hoping Ange can bring on Soro's game, really think there's a player in there. His drive and energy could prove vital.

I'd expect (and hope for) plenty of rotation. Guys like Ralston, Starfelt, Welsh, Soro and even Taylor, Ajeti and MJ (when he's fit) will need plenty of minutes. It's going to be a long season, and we can't be reliant on a core of 15 or so players to play 3 games a week. I've left out others who will no doubt play their part too.

This is pretty much 100% what I came here to say.

Would just add that an alternative for some ‘tighter games’ might be to drop Turnbull and keep Jota, in a 4-4-2. Depends on the opponents’ style, of course.

Will wait and see how Vickers, Scales, Jota and Giakoumakis get on first before deciding they’re worthy of first XI spots.

Jullien would be in there for Carl if he was fit.

    Hart
Juranovic - Welsh - Combat Carl - Montgomery
    McGregor - Turnbull
    Abada - Rogic - Jamesy
    Kyogo

No such thing as a starting 11, that’s why we have a squad.

I reckon although the Greek lad will get plenty games that Kyogo has to be utilised through the middle more often than not.

Scales will also have a much harder task ousting Taylor than Juranovic will ousting Ralston as well despite Ralston’s form. Juranovic is Croatia’s first choice right back and Scales is taking a huge jump forward in his career despite his potential.

Grand old team to play for
For normal SPL games from who we have available now:

    Hart
    Ralston - Starfelt - CCV - Juranovic
    Mcarthy
    Turnbull - McGregor
    Abada - Kyogo - Jota
Basing this on Ralston keeping his form going and Starfelt settling in and making fewer mistakes.

Only one game between now and our first group stage game against real betis. Be interesting to see if he tries out a few of the new signings next Saturday to determine if he wants them starting the following Thursday.

thats crazy i can understand ange playing him left back with taylor getting injured but we signed croatias right back to play right back or wed have been aswell not signing him and signing a better left back its not as if we didnt know we needed one, juranovic done his best against the huns but your setting yourself up for failure doing that * as was seen with robertson at right back in the scotland game

sorry anthony youve gonna have to fight with croatias right back for your position over the season even though youve come on leaps and bounds id say juranovic is the better player

if scales is not up to the job then that other kid whose looked good comes into it more cant remember his name, hes done well whenever ive seen him play recently, he looks talented

Very tough picks. The only area of the park where it’s pretty straightforward is midfield due to the lack of options in there.

Reading the thread it’s equally surprising and not surprising that GG isn’t in many peoples starting 11’s. It goes to show how highly rated Kyogo is that the Eridivise top goal scorer is going to struggle to get into our team.

    Hart

    Juranovic Starfelt CCV Scales

    McCarthy

    McGregor Turnbull

    Abada Kyogo Jota

I think that team is the perfect blend of everything. Speed, strength, height etc.

We then have good quality options on the bench such as Forrest, Rogic, GG, Soro, Welsh, Ralston. Jullien to come back into the fold after injury and players like Ajeti who could still prove to be a good signing (I’m not holding out for it tbh but it is possible).

Should have plenty youngsters looking to make an impact this year as well - Montgomery, Dembele, Shaw, Uroghide, Connell.
