Just thought i'd make this as theres a lot of talk about £40million from the CL if we win the League this season etc but it's not near that much and it hasn't really went up for Scottish teams because the way they changed how they give you money.

Celtic or Scottish teams used to get quite a lot of money from the CL because the TV rights for the UK are like half the TV money of the total CL TV Money and Celtic/the Scottish team got 10% of that which was usually €16million.

But they spread the money our much more even now. UK Teams went from getting €160million in TV money in 2018 to only €68million in 2020, so it's less than half than it used to be.

Last time Celtic were in the CL we got £13.5million from the TV Money but this season we'd only get £5.8million.

If Celtic were in the CL this season for example we'd get:

    £13.5million for qualifying
£7.5milliion in 10 year coefficient money
    £5.8m in TV Money
    TOTAL = £26.8million

    The huns would have got

    £13.5million for qualifying
£2milliion in 10 year coefficient money
    £5.8m in TV Money
    TOTAL = £21.3million

Celtic in EL £6.4million guarenteed (Would be £7.9million alone but we split the TV money)
Huns in EL £5.3million guarenteed (Would be £6.8million but we split the TV money)
    Celtic in CL £26.8million guarenteed
    Huns in CL £21.3million guarenteed

Because EL money went up and CL money never and actually is down if you are the huns because how low their 10 year ranking is, the difference is not as big as it was 3 years ago when Celtic would only be guarenteed like £3million from the EL and £25million from the CL.

Used to be £22million of a difference now its £20million or £18.5million if we were in the EL alone. For the huns it would have been £22million of a difference now it's £16million or £14.5million if they were in the EL alone.

You can see for example here:
    CL Payments 2017-18
    https://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/competitions/General/02/57/82/51/2578251_DOWNLOAD.pdf
    CL Payments 2019-20
    https://editorial.uefa.com/resource...-1000/04_uefa_financial_report_2019-20_en.pdf
On the 2nd one press ctrl+f and write Barcelona to skip down to see the CL money distribution faster as they now include all their financial stuff on the one release.

Celtic for example used to get much more money than Ajax if we both qualified, now Ajax get more than us. We used to get like £10million more than them just for getting into the Group, now because the TV money is lower and their coefficient is higher they end up with more than us.

That figure of 26.8m, on top of that do you also have something ridiculous like 750k for winning a match and 400k for a draw.

And then you have 3 home matches bringing in 2.4m in tickets.

So, is it safe to say CL groups bring in almost 36m if you get a result or two? Or are those revenue streams included in the 26.8m?

No. Although they don't really change much from the EL.

As we would most likely go straight into the Group we would lose 2 matches of the qualifiers. So 2 qualifiers and 3 EL Group Games ticket money vs 3 CL Group stage ticket money isnt much of a difference.

In the CL we'd probably pay £120 for 3 tickets, this season we'll pay £72 for the 3 EL and we paid I think £39 or something for the 2 qualifiers so its £111, £9 difference.

Prize money per point is bigger but again given how much easier it is to get points in the EL it again isnt a massive difference.

If I was to guess and compare it to this season in the EL.

    Celtic EL 2021-22
2 quaifiers = £1.5million in tickets (we played 3 but the first is included in season ticket money)
    3 Group = £3.1million in tickets
    £6.4million guarenteed
TOTAL = £11million from Europe before winning points

Celtic in CL 2022-23 (if winning the League)
    3 Group = £6million in tickets
    £26.8million guarenteed
TOTAL = £32.6million from Europe before winning points

    For huns
    Huns EL 2021-22
    2 qualifiers = £1.8milllion in tickets
3 Group = £4.5million in tickets (their tickets are much more expensive that ours like playing an extra game)
    £5.3million guarenteed
TOTAL = £11.6million from Europe before winning points

    Huns in CL 2022-23
3 Group = £7million in tickets (I'd guess they'd charge much more than we would again)
    £21.3million guarenteed
TOTAL = £28.3million from Europe before winning points

So theres probably a £21.5million difference for us getting into the CL and about £16.5million diference for them in total.

It's actually much simpler than that, the Champions League money for Scottish clubs is £0.

True, I just see the papers keep calling it £40million, they seem to be assuming because the basic money went up and now you get coefficient money as well as your market pool that it was worth more than it was before but actually it went down.

Yeah it was done to really give more money to big teams I think. The big winners from doing that were PSG, Bayern, Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Dortmund etc who now get more money and the English teams only get about the same when before the English teams always got the most money. So it kind of flattened out and funelled money to the other big teams without robbing it from the English.

So, basically, yes, it is worth £40m to us if we qualify.

Your £26.8m figure is the guaranteed amount for qualification but you haven't factored in income from 3-match packages, hospitality, sponsor bonuses, additional UEFA results bonuses.

    56k tickets at £100 (average) for 3 match package = £5.6m

4k tickets for hospitality use, individual sale & away fans = Conservative estimate of £2m

If we replicated our last performance in the group stage (17/18) - which wouldn't be hard as it was our worst - 5 losses, 1 win - that's prize money of £2.4m

Additional merchandise sales due to greater global exposure:
£12.6m in 2016 (no Champions League)
    £16.5m in 2017 (Champions League)

Not all of that discrepancy will be attributable but some of it will.

There are also longer-term benefits for Champions League qualification allowing for increased shirt manufacturer and sponsorship deals who know the UCL offers far greater exposure than the EL & SPFL.

£40m is an accurate estimate IMO

Do 2nd place go into CL qualifiers next season ? Or is that dependent on this seasons performance by us and them ?

The ECL cash makes a mockery of UEFAs FFP rules. You either get the choice to * every penny you have and overspend trying to make the group stage, or you don't and your league grows poorer as a result, meanwhile the PSGs, Man City's and Bayerns of the world continue to flaunt the rules but ECL runs covers some of that. ECL is financial doping for the rich clubs to flaunt financial rules.

Yeah but you haven't factored in stuff like the leckie bill for powering the disco lights, or the fines for the GB displaying a big RIP Bobby Sands banner, fuel for Desmond's private jet in case he wants to show face etc
