Seriously, how can you make any sort of assessment of goalkeeping level in a striker's highlights reel? One thing Oz punches way above its weight in is making keepers. Lots of very good ones here and probably a disproportionate number of Oz players in Europe are keepers.

What we have traditionally been crap at is making strikers, but quite late in his career (28 now) MacLaren has suddenly clicked and is (by Oz standards) the complete package. Far better than he was at 25.

Anyway it's all speculation. I've seen nothing more about the rumour of an Australian striker and even if there was one, it might not be MacLaren. FFS don't be Juric.

It’s quite easy to make an assessment on specific goalkeeping actions from a striker’s highlight video… it’s literally full of shots on goal :39:

No offence intended - a lot of the Aussies on here seem to take things a little too much to heart - I just don’t think Maclaren is at the required level to improve our squad.

I'd agree if it was replacing Edouard, in fact i'd be down right furious, but if we could get Maclaren to replace Griffiths it would be a no brainer.

Punt Ajeti and Griffiths and bring Henry, Nisbitt and Maclaren in, that's a pretty reliable set of strikers imo.

That is, of course, he's available for a decent fee, if they're wanting £2 million or more I would pass, but the aussies on here seem to think he'd be available for around £500k to £1 million.

I think the fact mcclaren has had to go back to Australia to show that sort of form says quite a bit.

Like it or not. For £500k I'd take a punt. No more tbh.

I'm not having it that going back to the A-League has brought his game on leaps and bounds.

I wasn't suggesting that at all.

I've seen a lot of him, pre and post Europe and he's a far better player post. It didn't quite work out in Europe (although 9 in 27 for a non top tier club isn't too bad) but I suspect he came back to Australia having learned a bit and really worked on his game to equip him for a better second shot.

Worked for Aaron Mooy. JMac is a far better and hungrier player than he was.

I think I'd rather keep the £500k and add it to whatever we have and use players as a makeweight in any deal.

Not impressed with Maclaren in the slightest.

Jamie Maclare. Isn’t a far better player than Aaron Mooy, that’s ludicrous.

    Do try to keep up.

I compared JMac with Mooy in the sense that Mooy had an unsuccessful spell in Europe, came back to the AL and worked on his game, then went back to Europe and was a sensation.

That will certainly be the case with MacLaren - a far better player now than he was for Hibs - but who will reap the benefit.

    Hopefully Celtic.

Edit: sorry, I can see how my previous post might have been misunderstood. My error.

Ahh, you’re comparing MacLaren to himself not Mooy?

Yes, no comparison really. Mooy's an 8 and MacLaren's a 9 but Mooy was so much better on his second Euro chance and I believe JMac will be also. He was unbelievable last AL season.

And at the very least, do you seriously think the AL is not comparable with the the bottom half of the SPL? I'd tell you there are only two teams in Scotland that would beat most AL teams, and JMac has scored goals for fun at that level.

    Ready to go higher.

Think that’s harsh on the SPFL this year, think the quality has majorly went up. St Johnstone getting draws against Galatasary and all sorts :56:

You said non-competitive matches mean * all, just after Dev had mentioned St Johnstone drawing with Galatasaray.

    The standard has definitely improved.

Bcos you tagged on to the St Johnstone result he mentioned with two friendly games and said, non competitive games mean nothing. He didn't mention a non competitive game, you did. Your post actually wasn't relevant to his.
