Just reading up on him there, spent the first half of the season on loan at Cardiff where he only played 1 game and got blamed by the manager for costing 2 goals. Loan got cut short, sent to Belgium where he couldn't break the current partnership.

I thought he was good when he was here but * that. Pass.

I hope not, he’s not worth it IMO, think we could get better for that price.

That’s not to say I don’t think he’d be a good signing for us.

Yesterday someone I work with told me that the King of King's young prince is here in Glasgow. Think he'd love it here.

Was it a taxi driver by any chance?

Sounds more like the friend of a friend of a taxi driver quality rumour.

Is there any meaningful sign/rumour of us getting another RB at this point or is O'Connor our back up for the season?

Have said on here a few times that I'd love Jamie MacLaren at Celtic.

Now hearing whispers beyond the ones I started myself that just maybe there's genuine interest. Ange would know all about him - probably picked him for the NT. Has genuinely gone to a new level in the last couple of years and would be fabulous playing with Abada, Christie and Kyogo.

    Mind you, so would I...

I wouldn’t be against him as the third choice striker behind Kyogo and Henry (or someone else of a high standard).

His record in Australia is unreal, albeit a poor standard. Think he’d be a reliable option domestically.

Way too good for Australia now.

Still only 27, I think, and about to enter the best 3 - 5 years of his career.

Is he hard-working and humble? If yes, maybe he'd accept being rotation to Kyogo?

I'd be more than happy for Maclaren to come in as third choice, surely wouldn't cost much either.

Very hard working - couldn't tell you about his humility. Has been first choice everywhere he's been (for obvious reasons) but surely he'd be very keenly aware he'd have to earn his stripes at Celtic.

He'd cost absolutely * all. Would love to see it.

Considering we need to spend serious money for almost a whole new back line, MacLaren could be an okay idea, if he indeed can close down hard.

Mclaren wasn't that great at hibs, he did well in the first 6 months then was * the season after, also struggled at darmstadt. I don't think he's up to it for us, he is outstanding in the A league but hasn't cut it over here

I've seen nothing that genuinely links him with Celtic apart from a couple of whispers that Ange is after an Oz striker he's already worked with...

MacLaren is by far the best current Oz striker, so it's more hope than ITK that it might be him. But he would really suit angeball. Such an intelligent player but with all the pace and skill to make that IQ count.

Put it this way - I adore Kyogo and think he'll be phenomenal for the bhoys - but if MacLaren had his chances at the weekend I'd bet my left nut he would've got more than three. Lethal.

Yep. It didn't quite work for him last stint in Europe but came back to Australia and suddenly blazed to a whole new level. This happens sometimes fairly late in careers when it suddenly clicks. He is three times the player now he was three years ago.

    Fingers crossed.

Wouldn't be adverse to it but he would need to be content to wait for his opportunity if we are signing someone like Henry and Kyogo is there too.

I think Ajeti and Griffiths would both have to leave for it to happen.

Gonna take some heat for this no doubt but some of the standard of defending there is mad...the space he was getting, not even a case of great movement a lot of the time.

E.g. He scored 5 against Melbourne Victory alone.

I think short highlights like that don't really show the runs he makes to get into those tap in positions but he's always there. Scores with his head and both feet - inside the box and out. The large number of first touch goals in the showreel give an indication of how deadly his finishing has become. Never content with one either.

But yes, he'd have to work hard to get decent minutes at Celtic when you see the quality already in place. But isn't that exactly what is wanted?

The defending in a lot of that video is junior level at best. The goalkeeping isn’t much better.

We’ve seen Maclaren first hand in his time at Hibs and he’s nowhere near good enough for us. Going back to Australia and doing well says more about the Aussie league than it does his progression.

He’s confident and scoring for fun because of the level he’s playing at. Coming here and having the pressure of being a Celtic player and the pressure of having to stand out in limited minutes, plus a drop in confidence due to not featuring every week… it’s a disaster waiting to happen.

    Next. Nisbet is levels above.
