Now reading the last part of the Cromwell (Thomas! Not Oliver...) trilogy by Hilary Mantel.

The other two were works of genius and this one seems to be going the same way.

    As an aside...

My favourite author of the last 30 years is Irvine Welsh - even if his last few have been mostly *. But I've always had a question which no Scottish person I've known (and there are heaps here in Oz) has been able to answer. A frequent expression in Welsh's novels is stoat the baw. I know it means underage * but what the * does stoat the baw literally mean?

    Been wondering for years.

I am an Irvine Welsh fan as well. Loved Trainspotting and its sequel *. Both are brilliant. I have Skagboys, Dead Mens Trousers and Blade Artist all sitting on my "too read" shelves.

Finished Declan Hughes City of Lost Girls. Really enjoyed it and is IMHO the best of his books that I have read so far. This one is about a serial killer set mostly in Dublin. Very character driven and gives you a great sense of the Dublin of the day(2010) as well as keeping you guessing as to the serial killers identity.

This was a mission to get through. Not as engaging as The Martian and no where near as fun as Artemis.

    meh

Finished Lars Brownworth's In Distant Lands which is an account of the Crusades from the first one in the late 10th century through the last one in the 13th century. Really enjoyed the book.
