Vasilis Barkas

Still have doubts about him due to last season but he definitely seems to have found some sort of confidence under ange. The saves he made yesterday whilst being nothing spectacular were saves I dont think he would've made last season.
Hes definitely put himself ahead of Bain.

 

Another stain on last season's coaching set-up that with nothing to play for, we persisted with a low level SPFL keeper at best instead of our 5 million pound International from Greece..

He may no be the answer long term and had a shaky season to put it kindly but, he is levels above Bain..

 

Neither did mate. I hear you 100% but he was our 5 million pound signing..

It made no sense to go with a diddy like Bain (who's made a catalogue of errors his self) , who really had a wee purple patch but is tiny and pish..

We had so many dead rubbers and you'd think they'd plan for the future, for this season, by at least trying to play what was a very good keeper before he came to us, back in to form..

 

I've honestly got every faith in Barkas to do well here.

As you touch on though, the persistence not to play Barkas, even after Lennon had finally * off and the season was over is baffling. They two muppets in charge set the club back for this season and made any new managers job a helluva lot harder - more reason the useless * shouldn't have even been at the club for Ange to assess.

 

I wouldn't say I have every faith but he definitely deserves a chance...ahead of Bain anyway..

It was made even worse last season when he was declared number 1 later in the season and then bombed out after a game..

Terrible management..

 

Really poor management with Barkas.
Guy played a run of games, conceded something like 14 goals, of which 8 or 9 where direct fault of Brown and Duffy, 2 where world class strikes no one would catch and the last few questionable. He was no where near as bad as folk made out. He just hadn't made any world class, confident building saves.
Lennon then chopped and changed it randomly as *, allowed Bain to come in and ship in twice as many goals in half the games (or so), then chopped and changed it again, declared him his number 1 as you say, 3 games later had him dropped yet again.
All the while, defending of setpieces was never worked on by anyone in the club and the entire defence left a shambles in front of either keeper.

100% he was sold short and left out to dry as they say.
Deserves a better chance, more than most in my eyes, and yeah I do honestly think he will come good here.

Always felt he's been our best option in goal , just needs time an confidence

You dont just become a terrible GK overnight. Surely…

 

If he's our main GK this season.

We won't be anywhere near the league.

We'll not be in Europe very long.

 

If he's pish then we can always try him in his preferred position, left back

We'll make a good signing out of him one way or another..

Would love if we could make that happen. In fairness to Barkas he actually looked good and commanding yesterday so hopefully he will turn his Celtic career around but if we have the chance to resign Forster I would take that without question. Proven top quality.
