Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side will take on Danish side, FC Midtjylland in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League following today’s draw in Nyon, Switzerland.

The Hoops are scheduled to play the first leg at home on July 20/21, with the return leg a week later on July 27/28. Confirmation on both fixtures to follow.

It will be Celtic's first meeting with FC Midtjylland, who finished second in the Danish league last season, and who have former Celt, Erik Sviatchenko in their ranks.

The home leg of this UCL second qualifying round tie is part of the 2021/22 season ticket, either in person or virtually via the Pass to Paradis

I think that's about the best draw we could get from the three possible.

There are big changes this year, with the addition of a new third tier tournament. The Europa is reduced to 32 teams, and now consists of teams from the top 16 leagues, plus any team from the champions league who happen to drop into it. The new Europa Conference is like the Europa League with a lot of the better teams skimmed off the top. There are still some good teams in there though. And Spurs, too.

The changes mean that we now have the chance of being pumped out of 3 tournaments in the same season, as you (nearly always) get another chance in the next tournament down. Here's how it's shaping up for us.

    Champions League
Currently, we'll start in QR2 of the non-champions route of Champions Leage qualifying where we'll face either Galatasaray, Midtjylland or Rapid Vienna. If Man Utd win the Europa this week then it'd be either Midjtylland or Rapid, but not Galtasaray. Winning this tie guarantees us a place in the Europa League at least. The draw is on 16th June, with the first leg on 20/21 July and the return leg a week later.

On the off chance that we win our QR2 game, we'd be seeded in QR3 and would play any of the above who make it through or PSV, Sparta Prague, Genk or Spartak Moscow.

Shakhtar or Benfica would be added to potential opponents for the playoff (or whoever beats them in QR3). We can't be seeded in the playoff.

Think we all agree that the Champions League is a bit of a long shot this year.

    Europa League
We're in the strange position of knowing exactly who we could play in the EL, before we've even kicked a ball in the CL. Uefa have changed how the draws are made in the EL (the other tournaments are more what we're familiar with), and we can now only face certain teams. There aren't really seedings anymore. It's dictated by how you arrived at that particular round.

Should we lose in QR2 of the champions league we drop into the main path of EL qualifying at QR3. We would play either Anorthosis Famagusta or Jablonec. That's it.

If we win QR3 then our EL Playoff opponent would be one of AZ, Fenerbahce, Zorya Luhansk, Antwerp, Sturm Graz or Randers (not a typo). Win that and it's the EL groups. Lose and it's the ECL groups.

There's a strange new system of seeding for the EL Playoff that guarantees that at least 4 champions will qualify for the EL groups. It's a bit of a mess, but it's good to see Champions get a little help.

    Conference League
We can only play in the playoff round of ECL qualifying, and we'd be dropped into the main qualifying route along with everyone but champions - who play in their own route. We'd be seeded for this.

We only need to win one of three ties to reach group stage football. Surely even we can do that?

if we cant beat these kinda teams do we even deserve to be in Europa groups.

it shows how far the club have regressed when even fans are thinking about these games being difficult.

a good, well-oiled celtic team playing with passion and intent should have no concerns.

unfortunately over the last 8-10 years our away record in Europe has been shocking to say the least and at home we cannot create a fortress unless it is actually from the fans who do their job

it is time the board back the manager, bring some high impact players in and start to show some improvement in Europe instead of doing things the hard way with nail-biting games with terrible decision making on the pitch from players who think they are big time in league football, but in European games are miles off the pace!

    rant over.

Ang prove your worth we are all waiting and wanting you to deliver.

    Hail Hail

To be honest it's just a big Meh for me at the moment... still waiting on DOF of we are getting one, still waiting on Ange to arrive in the building, some of the dross we have been linked to in the transfer market is frightening..

We will probably make one of the group stages, Conference is about our level the now..

League is our priority this season..full stop

It’s a kind draw. If we add a couple of defenders and a keeper before then I’d fancy our chances.

Would * off Europe this season, our squad and club as whole are in to much of a state to focus on it and trying to win yhe league.

If we can focus on winning the league we get auto CL as a reward. Energy needs to be spent on getting the right players in so we can achieve that.

It's too late now for Celtic to try and get players bedding in for CL qualifications and/or European group stage football at any level.

Our away record in the last 8-10 years has been substantially better than the previous. It’s out home form that’s bit the bullet

What does this have to do with us playing them 2 seasons later. Not sure why people say this pish. They could have changed their full team & manager in that time.

They knocked out young boys and Sparta Prague last season so this isn't a easy game .

They knocked out Ludogorets Young Boys and pumped Slavia 4-1 in the qualifiers last year, they then drew with Atalanta and Liverpool. The notion they are the easiest out of the 3 we could’ve got is daft. Only thing making this even winnable is that their side looks to be raided this summer and they lost their manager to Royal Antwerp

    Pretty much this.

Don’t fancy us against any of the teams we could’ve drawn today and would be pleasantly surprised to see us get through this round.

Much like most others I find it hard to get excited. We don't really have much of a team and the manager isn't in the door.

Any tie would be difficult in our current state
