Out on Yorkshire moors hoping to see kestrels when my partner spotted a huge owl, this was at dusk and mrs reckoned it was a long eared owl, I have no idea but the flight was breathtaking to watch, up and down a bit like a lapwing flies, that’s the third one around there we’ve seen in 12 years, so lucky.

@Johniebhoy. Naa fraid not mate, but I'm not too bothered as the camera was in excellent condition all manuals, cables, charger, batteries dvd's etc still well pleased.
Just need to figure out what size of lens to choose for my first one, there's so many choices I'm kinda confused which way to go, a prime like a nifty fifty, a zoom telephoto etc. I also want one for video recording.
    Any advice ?

Good choice of camera Scuzzy, it kinda depends what you want to photograph re a lens, for landscape i'd go for a canon 18-55mm as a starter lens, for wildlife/ sport i'd go canon 70-300mm as a starter, whatever lens you go for make sure it fits your camera, i.e. an EF/EFS mount.

Thanks man, yeah gonna go for the EFS type, been trawling the web checking out what folk tend to use for specific circumstances and I did notice both of those are used quite frequently, unfortunately the next thing I have to do is get a little job done on the car nothing too much but it's still money that could have gone towards a lens, not to worry I'll get there, most important thing is I have the camera now.

I'm wondering if it maybe escaped from someone's enclosure as it seems a bit tame, it's a beast of a bird right enough would love to see any owl in the wild I've never seen one as yet but hoping to :50:

The 2nd hand option is always there for lenses too Scuzzy, you can buy good conditioned pre owned lenses on line.

@bagforlife exactly yes actually I've been almost here before in the respect of the camera, see my interest was always Astrophotography, you know stars, nebulas etc, I actually have the big telescope, my idea was to get a camera mounted onto it and take some interesting pictures, there's so much to see when you include, space as well as wildlife and I am looking forward to it very much.

@bagforlife Dalmuir park at the top gates is where I hear the owls so that's right next to you, was usually just at dusk when the bats are out flying is the earliest I've heard them, and when it gets darker of course. Might be worth a wander up there this year.

@Johniebhoy. I am a little wary of the 2nd hand lens maket simply because I feel I might end up picking one up only to find it has scratches on it and it's too late to do anything about, but I suppose it's deffi possible to get a good one.

Very interesting would be great to see pictures of the stars etc I always feel very insignificant when I look up at them it's fascinating how infinite space seems

Dalmuir park is round the corner from mum and dad's so it's handy when I'm visiting them to walk through the park, I go from the top gates towards the golf course and down to the burn that's where I've seen the dipper and the grey wagtail, actually nearly fell down the embankment of the waterfall trying to get a picture of the dipper chick but I got the picture daughter had to pull me back up I was covered in mud but it was worth it I'll try getting the picture of it up as you'll know exactly where I mean in the park I was

@bagforlife sure that would be great and I know that exact embankment I too painted the * of my jeans on a few occasions, funny how the dog loves to go there when it's been 5 days worth of rain total mudfest.
