Watched it, it's a dirty rotten way for anyone to end their days, i wasn't aware Bobby and Jack hadn't spoken in years and now Bobby has been diagnosed with the same condition.

    Tremendous documentary.

I was at Italia 90 and was based in NY for the World Cup in 94 and flew down to watch Bonner’s blunder in Orlando.

Great memories and a sad watch at the same time.

I sat up late on Thursday to watch on my own. Tears appeared at various stages out of nostalgia and sadness.

    Jack’s Heroes!

It is tragic how that horrible disease left the man a shadow of what he used to be , what an inspirational man .

    Great program. Very poignant.
Some great results. But is there an argument that Ireland could have competed just as well in those tournaments by playing on the deck football? The squad was very good. Bit before my time.

I thought the Doc itself was very well made, so sad to see him robbed of his memories, dementia is such a brutal disease.

Loved the way that, even with this devastating illness, he was able to look at a match and simply say "Paul McGrath"...

I think the thing is mate Ireland had never qualified for these tournaments before Jack so his place in history is assured as the guy that made these things possible for Ireland. The other thing is without Jack those squads would not have been as strong as they were. The two goals from that period that stand out for me are the winner against England in 88 and the winner against Italy in 94. Houghton's first game for Ireland was Jack's first game as manager.

Certainly no expert on dementia, however watching that the thing that jumped into my mind was the reason Jack remembered McGrath and not the others was because listening to the earlier interviews he had far more of an emotional investment in Paul. I think that triggered something. I was discussing this with a lass at work the day after and she said that fitted with her experience. Her Gran had dementia. She was estranged from her ma so when she had her first kid her gran was at the hospital and there to support her. Then later when her gran started suffering with dementia she couldn't remember her husband who she had known for years or her youngest boy but she knew her eldest all the time.

I didn't actually find the programme as hard a watch as I thought I would. Obviously sometimes people with dementia get frustrated which can lead to anger or even violence. You could see the with the way his grankids were about him that doesn't seem to have been the case here. Jack had a great life.

If anybody carried on watching after the BBC had this on

I spent a couple of years as a kid in Warkworth and went to St Cuthbert's in Amble. Fantastic beaches and some great people around there.

Strangely enough I always think of Ray Houghton missiing a glorious chance to beat England at Wembley in 1991 for Euro qualifying. Played them off the park that night. Houghton could have scored 3 most memorable goals in Irish football history!

I can still remember that game having watched it as a 9 year old.

Not qualifying for Sweden 92 was a huge disappointment, and - apart from USA 94 - was a precursor to the rest of our attempts to qualify for major tournaments for the rest of the decade.
