OLIVIER NTCHAM is set to return to Celtic in the summer — as Marseille stall on a £4.5million deal.

The shock came as it was revealed Newcastle are preparing an £8m raid for defender Kristoffer Ajer.

French midfielder Ntcham, 25, has had a nightmare loan spell since returning home in January.

Boss Andre Villas-Boas quit in protest at Ntcham’s signing as his Marseille move got off to a torrid start.

Since then, struggling Ntcham has been taken off at half-time in all three of his starts so far.

New boss Jorge Sampaoli hasn’t been convinced by the Celtic man after a string of poor displays.

And the French giants are now likely to pull the plug on the £4.5m buy option on the loan deal.

Marseille are instead considering other signing targets — with Ntcham poised to return to Celtic .

The former Man City midfielder only has a year left on his contract and the Hoops hoped a deal had been struck.

But Ntcham’s lack of form has forced Marseille to look elsewhere and a return to Scotland is on the cards.

The 25-year-old moved to Parkhead from the Etihad back in 2017 and had made a big impact under Brendan Rodgers.

But Ntcham’s displays dipped in the last 18 months and he was allowed to join Marseille in January.

Celtic were on the brink of recouping the entire fee paid to City — but could be forced to find another buyer.

I'd think to release him we'd need to pay him what he's due for the last year if his contract. Would still be worth it just to get rid. Can't have him hanging around the club next season.

Not great from a financial standpoint for us, when we need him off the wage bill....but it's great to see this charlatan be humbled over there.
