Until Armstrong left he was never guaranteed a start under Rodgers or a defensive minded mid until his last season . Played on the left a lot of the time when Sinclair's form dipped.
Imo hes over rated. Hes too timid and has went missing against the huns numerous times now.
    What an uninspiring Captain.
There is not one player in the squad I'd care about leaving.

I think he's been a bit off the last wee while but he is definitely one of our better players and I am sure he will get his mojo back under a new manager

He’s the most unselfish player in our team. He does the running to cover others or makes the run so it drags players away from other runs. He does what’s needed, he’s a massive, massive reason about Broonys wee resurgance the last couple games.

His attitude should be the standard.

Just too negative the now. Ever since he broke into the side, he has been so positive, getting forward and always the one with supporting runs. Has a great engine and always positive on the ball, looking to play a forward pass.
But all this season, he has been so negative, sloppy also. Have seen the odd glimpse of the old CMcG this season, but rarely. He just looks to be burned out, has lost his spark.

I think he's been off the play for quite some time.

There's wee flashes here and there, but he's well off the standards he's set.

As being said his passing has been very poor.

Said it a few weeks ago, Cal Mac needs a break. He looks shattered after every game, it can't be food for him physically and mentally. It would be interesting how his minutes on the pitch compares to everybody else's this season

Callum McGregor is in line to become the new Celtic captain and commit the rest of his career to the club, Football Insider understands.

The Hoops academy product, 27, was the subject of strong interest from Leicester City in the summer of 2019 and again last summer when a £20million bid was mooted.

McGregor was tempted to leave on both occasions but Celtic blocked him and a source has told Football Insider he is earmarked to replace Scott Brown when he leaves as the club captain.

That could be as early as this summer, when the 35-year-old’s contract is due to expire.

Brown may yet stay on in a new role, potentially as a player-coach, although nothing has been agreed yet and much will depend upon the huge changes expected on and off the pitch

Whatever the outcome of those McGregor’s place in the new era is secure and he will be one of the pillars of a rebuilt team.

He has barely missed a game for Celtic in recent years and is one of the few players to have maintained his standards during a calamitous campaign.

McGregor is also increasingly regarded as a dressing room leader and influential voice off the pitch.

His Celtic credentials are impeccable and he already has made 315 appearances for the club.

The source explained that the Scottish giants knocked back enquiries from Leicester for McGregor in both 2019 and 2020.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were willing to pay £20m for the Hoops midfielder but Celtic made it clear the central midfielder would not be sold at any price.

Celtic announced in November 2019 that McGregor had put pen to paper on a five-year contract that ties him to the club until the summer of 2024.

The 26-times Scotland international has made 39 appearances this season, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

Out of all the players, Mcgregor has suffered the most in terms of loss of form under the current clown in charge. He's clearly a very talented player who will no doubt regain his form under new management.

Really hope he stays. Not been himself this year but nobody has under Lenny. A class act. One of Celtic and Scotland’s best if not best player imo.

Please can we put a halt to the Scotland's best player rhetoric.

McGregor is a very good player on his day, but he has been consistently below average for a while now. Even last season he wasn't great, he was * poor before the Dubai trip but to be fair came back better afterwards.

Until he starts putting in great performances on a consistent basis we shouldn't be peddling the "best player in Scotland/best Scottish player" stuff.

McGinn, Robertson, Tierney (when fit), Armstrong and even Christie have all out performed McGregor in the last few years. McTominay as well has looked a level above from what I have seen of both this season.

When was the last time calmac got a rest.....not 10 mins or 15 mins in some * pointless game but actually rested for 2 or 3 games. Biggest squad in the universe but lennyball refuses to rest those most in need.

Not fussed either way tbh, good patch under Rodgers and fleeting performances outwith, but for most part really a bit meh, for me.

Would defo cash in if Leicester or likes were talking £20m.

Maybe under a new manager his form would return.
